God Bless Eureka Springs, Arkansas (Same Sex Registry)
Edited on Fri Jun-29-07 03:10 PM by BOSSHOG
The city council unanimously approved setting up a registry for same sex couples. Per the American Family Radio (avenue for hate and disinformation dobson style on the top of the hour newscast) a christian minister is trying to get the issue before a public vote. Per the minister (I did not get his name):

"Christians must stand for rightiousness EVEN IN A HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT." Praise the Lord and HATE, HATE, HATE. Just like Jesus would do.

Lets see, people wanting to proclaim their love officially creates a hostile environment??? But I guess christian radio knows their audience just like limbaugh and hannity do.

1. That makes me ill
What next, making them wear rainbow patches on their clothing?

Poor Christians, always so oppressed. And the sad thing is, somewhere in Africa, a lion is going hungry.

2. Oh yes they are so oppressed
just ask them and they will tell you how horrible it is to be a christian in America. They have to have secret services on Sunday and their tax exemption is constantly challenged and they have to hide the bumper stickers on their cars and they have to hide their propaganda in the religion section of the local newspapers and they have to huddle close to the pulpit to be told who to vote for. Its just so horrible for them here.

3. Boss, the registry is also for unmarried, heterosexual couples as well as same sex ones.
I think on the first day, it was reported that 19 couples had registered. The purpose is to have a certification for employer offered benefits. I think it's great. But our RW nut cases are attempting to 'put it on a ballot' so they can rig the outcome.

4. So what's going on here?
Is this a "same-sex couples have to place themselves on this list for, uh, because!" sort of thing? Or is it "if you're on this list, as far as we're concerned you're married or whatever equivalent for legal purposes in this town?"

If it's the latter, well, awesome. If it's the former, well, not.
