Rasmussen: Clinton 38% Obama 26% Edwards 13%
Friday, July 13, 2007

While Illinois Senator Barack Obama is the fundraising leader, New York Senator Hillary Clinton remains the clear frontrunner in polls for the Democratic Presidential nomination. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds Clinton with 38% of the vote, Obama at 26% and former North Carolina Senator John Edwards at 13%. Those results are virtually unchanged from our previous poll.

Clinton has been gaining ground steadily in recent months. This week’s poll support of 38% matches her average for the preceding four weeks. During the four weeks before that, she averaged 35%. That figure itself was up three points from the preceding four weeks total of 32%.

New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson is favored by 3% of Likely Democratic Primary Voters. Senator Joe Biden, Senator Chris Dodd and Congressman Dennis Kucinich each attract 2% of the vote. Former Senator Mike Gravel remains below the 1% mark and 13% are undecided.

The national telephone survey of 791 Likely Democratic Primary Voters was conducted from Monday, July 9 through Thursday July 12. The margin of sampling error is +/- 4 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

1. So how is President Dean doing?
As we've learned many times throughout history, national primary polls at this point mean nothing.

2. Correctly noted. Add to your thought is take a look at what Kerry's numbers were just the December
before Iowa.

(Of course Kerry got lots of help from the Al Franken wing of the Dem Party).

5. Gaining?
Edited on Sat Jul-14-07 03:42 PM by jackbourassa
She is ahead by a pitiful 12%. This is the third poll in a row to show her ahead by 12 or 13% which is nothing for someone who is so "inevitable" like Hillary Clinton. Especially since Obama will have more money to spend in the primaries against her.

Last year her lead was at what? 20%? 30%? Now it's at 12%. Last year she was in the mid 30s. Now she is in the mid 30s. It is Obama who is gaining. You, and other Hillary supporters, are only too biased to see this.

Am I supposed to jump off a bridge because your candidate - the wife of a former President, and with a 30% advantage in name id - has a measly 12% lead with 7 months to go?

With gains like these, who needs setbacks?

The real headline should be: Hillary's number stagnate. Not even the Big Dog can help her at this point.

Let's see where we are in December when Obama unleashes $30 million worth of ads.

7. Gallup Results: Hillary leads Obama 37% to 21%
(Asked of Democrats and independents who lean to the Democratic Party) Next, I'm going to read a list of people who may be running in the Democratic primary for president in the next election. After I read all the names, please tell me which of those candidates you would be most likely to support for the Democratic nomination for President in the year 2008, or if you would support someone else.

(ROTATED: Delaware Senator, Joe Biden; New York Senator, Hillary Clinton; Connecticut Senator, Christopher Dodd; Former North Carolina Senator, John Edwards; Former Vice President, Al Gore; Former Alaska Senator, Mike Gravel; Ohio Congressman, Dennis Kucinich; Illinois Senator, Barack Obama; New Mexico Governor, Bill Richardson)

4. People Who've Actually Decided, Pick Obama
Which is why far more people have contributed to Obama.

Mrs. Clinton has name recognition, which is very valuable this early in the race, when so few people are actually paying any attention.

(Or at least that's my theory...)

6. No, Obama counts every $5. or $10. ticket sold to one of his events as a "contribution."

Your theory is like implying eveyone who bought a ticket to "Dukes of Hazzard" did so because they believe it would win the Oscar.
