Thoughts on a Gonzo impeachment
I have mixed feelings about this possibility. On the one hand, it would be ***enormously*** satisfying to see our side get one of them out of office. The smell of blood in political water makes me ..... excited.

But I may be more than willing to forgo this not so guilty pleasure if we could get past Gonzo to the big guys: The Bush boy and his boss.

There is no doubt similar calculations are being run through the brain of Karl Rove and crew. We all know the Bush boy would toss Fredo under the bus so fast it'd make your head spin if that was in his (the Bush boy's) best interest. Loyalty for all the Bushes is a one way street. It is Rove's job to know when the time is right to do that.

So when might that time be?

I'm thinking they already punched the stumpy guy's time card. The only issue now is when to cut him loose.

Not only when ..... but how.

Cut him off now and use the recess appointment to bring in a worse guy, and at the same time, thumb their collective noses at the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Let him twist a while and just **dare** the Dems to impeach him. If the Dems fail to follow through, they win. Point, game, match. If the Dems go for it, they get to see how the notion of impeachment plays with the electorate. If it plays badly, their 08 prospects rise. If plays well, they stay even.

Now, there's another reason for them to favor impeachment. If they are, by some strange circumstance, actually a little wobbly kneed about their own fates with respect to impeachment, they may just give up No Neck and hope every one gets satiated on that orgy, to the point where most of the country would rather just lay out and have a smoke and some espresso than go through it all again, no matter how satisfying it was.

Of course, that scenario could just as easily play out such that a Gonzo Gone-zo could serve to do no more than whet appetites and embolden the weak-kneed on our side. In which case their gamble didn't pay off and they lose big time.

Anyhow, I have an inordinately cloudy crystal ball.

In one particular break in the clouds in that crystal ball, by the way, I saw a truly horrible sight. This little, dark haired, short, stubby, no necked guy, laughing his ass off. He was just acquitted in the Senate. The punditry was speaking of the upcoming landslide of the Mitt Romney/Adam Putnam campaign against some Dems no one cared to mention. This closed with a vision of a clown using a polka dot sledge hammer to beat the living shit out of a glass ball.

1. Except I suspect Haley Barbour, not Adam Putnam.
I can see us impeaching, then failing to convict in the senate, and then using that against the Republicans in 08. Or we magically succeed, and then proceed to get a new AG who will prosecute contempt of congress, and the investigations, impeachments and criminal prosecutions continue.

2. The fact is ..... Putnam's too young to be nomiated for veep
With Howdy Doody Putnam, it was a fantasy.

To put Haley in there makes it a nightmare.

3. They'd try to make Haley a partial innoculation against accusation of Katrina-style incompetence.

5. I'm not sure. I think a recess appointment is possible
But, like you, I claim no expertise on this subject.
