Rudy Giuliani's plan for healthcare. What an a$$!!
Guiliani's big plan for healthcare reform is to give a $15,000 tax credit to working families to buy health insurance. He says this is a better alternative than "socialized medicine".

So what about the people that don't have work, Rudy???? What about the working poor who probably won't qualify for this, Rudy? These Republicons are so out of touch I can't believe they are smart enough to get out of bed every morning.

Wish I had a link, but this computer at work won't let me cut and paste. Saw it on Yahoo though.

20. He doesn't care about poor people!

In fact he's disdainful of them. As Mayor he wanted to limit housing at shelters
to a maximum of 3 months for families. I believe he also started closing shelters.
His idea of handling the homeless problem in New York was to sweep them under
the carpet.

3. Many Republicans see those that don't have healthcare as
being sh*t out of luck. It's so funny though how the Christian Right can talk about how Jesus wanted us to help everybody and all that...and then they buy this "socialized medicine" bullsh*t.

5. This is a dupre, but it's still worthwhile...
to mention it again.

First, who the fuck pays 15 grand in taxes and doesn't already have a health plan?

Then, who's gonna make up the loss from a 15 grand CREDIT that half the working families are gonna get?

Pure, utter, bullshit from the king of bullshit.

7. It's not a tax credit --- it's a deduction
http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/nation/ny-strudy0802,0,3215021.story?coll=ny-leadnationalnews-headlines

The main element of his plan is a tax deduction of up to $15,000 for families who use the money to buy insurance in the marketplace instead of getting it through employers, as more than half of Americans do now.

As an incentive, the families could bank in a health-savings account whatever was left over after they bought insurance -- say, $3,000 if they bought a $12,000 policy. The idea is that all those dollars would drive prices down, and competition and choices up in the marketplace, Giuliani says.

14. big whoop
15K deduction may sound like a lot - if you make, say, lwess than 50K, your existing exemptions and deductions may leave you with not much more than that as taxable income. So you pay some 20% on that - this saves you $3000.

For others that 15k would be more savings - maybe 4500 or so - due to progressive rates

My coverage for myself and wife is about $9000/year (top-of-line BC/BS PPO). My employer pays 8000.

With Rudy's plan my employer benefits. I guarantee they'd reduce what they pay. Someone paying their own or currently unable to pay gets a modest windfall, which they may or may not be able to apply to actually useful coverage. This is really a handout to businesses, with only some slight benefit to a small portion of those who need it.

9. You are 100% correct
What in the hell good is a 15,000 tax credit to people who first don't make enough money to buy expensive health insurance. Most of them probably pay the minimum tax now and that wouldn't do them a damn bit of good.

10. And what about those few who have a decent, company supplied health plan?. . .
They'll get a $15,000 credit/deduction on money they don't truly make, while finding themselves stuck with the entire cost of their health care plan. Only the company gains a benefit, as they will not have to pay their share anymore, and most will not give their savings to their employees, leaving them stuck with the full bill but only a partial means to pay it.

Thanks, Giuliani. Nothing of value in your proposal for the Working Class Hero, but I'm sure if you're the candidate of the Right in 2008, your opponent will make much of this disaster.

11. He's Also Forgotten Those Uninsurable
Some cannot get any insurance at any price and many who will have to fork over much of their cash just to keep roof over head and meds they require. If he ever followed any family who has more then one serious illness within their family he would see what a disaster they would be facing. If only "they" could be without insurance and dread the mail every week knowing more bills are coming from doctors and hospitals. if they had to deal with wondering if they should pay the light bill or refill one of a multitude of meds they take perhaps, just perhaps they would understand where "we" are coming from.

17. I found the link at home. Too late to edit post
Sorry I don't know how to make it short with a bit of text. Maybe someone can educate me on that.

It is indeed a tax "deduction" as opposed to a credit, but as another poster mentioned above, it really doesn't make things any better. And the idea that this allows companies to get off free while we pay the whole thing is just nuts. Thank God I have a kick-butt union that has negotiated a good health plan for us, but we have to bargain every stinkin' contract to keep the company from tinkering with it.
