Which party has the more interesting field of candidates?
Democrats

Pros: The leading candidates break all established norms of presidential politics. The front runner is a woman, the second closest candidate is black, and all the top candidates are senators, not governors.

Cons: The race is more or less a done deal. I'm sure I'll get heat for that comment, but I'd feel comfortable betting all my money that Hillary wins the primary.

Republicans

Pros: The race has no definite winner yet, and a potentially interesting unannounced candidate in Thompson.

Cons: Other then Giuliani's mayoral and Romney's Mormon background, it's the usual gang of old white guys.

4. It's a valid question, but perhaps I should amand it:
Strictly from the perspective of an interesting race, not political position, which party has a more interesting field of candidates? We have a historically diverse set of candidates, but the race is unlikely to produce surprises. The Reps have a pretty standard, but still unsettled field of candidates. In terms of political theater, which side are you more looking froward to watching?

2. The Dems!
They have Dennis and Mike, the two candidates who, if nominated and elected, really would change things around in Washington!

Go Dennis!

6. Howard Dean
was such a "done deal" that Al Gore and the AFL-CIO endorsed him. Betting all your money on a winner this early in a primary is a dangerous thing.

7. I predicted that Dean would get sold out by the mainstream Dems
as soon as the election got close, to insure a candidate with better odds. I was right. The media/other candidates harped on the "yeehaa" until Dean was dead.
