Black Women for Obama Joins Movement for Change

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) September 4, 2007 -- Black Women For Obama, a newly formed organization of African-American women who are Obama supporters, announced today that it has held its first formal meeting, and will be aggressively working with the Obama Campaign to enlighten other black women about Senator Barack Obama's vision for the nation.

"Our group is made up of black women who have evaluated the candidates, examined the issues, and decided that Senator Obama is the best choice to lead this nation at this time. Our primary goal is to encourage as many black women as possible to become part of the political process - however, we're confident that if they do the same evaluation, they will see that Senator Obama is the one to support," says Patricia Wilson-Smith, the group's Executive Director.

The organization has plans to go nationwide. They have already formed official chapters in Georgia, Missouri, South Carolina, Texas and Indiana, and are actively recruiting members to form state chapters in the remaining first primary states - New Hampshire, Iowa, Florida, and Nevada.

According to BlackAmericaWeb.com, black women across America are "meeting, mobilizing and empowering themselves as a critical voting bloc for the 2008 presidential election." In this election more than any other, black women will have a unique and important voice. "In 2004, black Americans cast 14 million votes, 59% of which were cast by black women. Our group is dedicated to debunking the myth that because of her husband's popularity, Senator Clinton will get our votes by default. We believe that there is someone better equipped to lead our nation, and that someone is Senator Barack Obama", says Khesha Duncan, Co-Director for BWFO.

The group is actively planning a number of fund-raisers, voter registration events and is emulating the 'house party' approach to canvassing adopted by "Women for Obama", Michelle Obama's organization within the official Obama campaign. BWFO will encourage women across the nation to have open dialogs about the candidates and decide for themselves who the Democratic nominee should be.
