Kucinich on 9/11---an inspiring letter to his supporters
I received this email as I'm sure many of you did as well. But I thought I should share it w/others here at DU & beyond.
DK understands what needs to be done to heal our sick nation.
Enjoy these thoughts from a TRUE PATRIOT!. :dem:

"Remembering 9/11

Dear southerncrone,

Let us on this day mourn for those who tragically lost their lives on 9/11. And let us commit that their lives not be lost in vain, but become the basis for a new America of peace and justice. America must regain the moral high ground in our efforts to recover from 9/11.

Let us not forget the world was with America in our sorrow on September 11, 2001. The world was prepared to unite with America in a cooperative effort to challenge terrorists who attempt to disrupt civil society. Instead, the Administration used 9/11 as an excuse to attack a nation that did not attack us. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, or with Al Qaeda's role in 9/11. Iraq did not have the intention or the capability of attacking the United States. Iraq did not have weapons of mass destruction. Yet the Administration deliberately and falsely conflated 9/11 with Iraq, with the cooperation of an unquestioning media.

As a result, nearly 4,000 of our brave soldiers have lost their lives, and tens of thousands have been permanently injured in combat in Iraq. The subsequent occupation has fueled the insurgency and will continue to result in more troop losses until the United States leaves. Also, nearly one million innocent Iraqis have lost their lives as a result of this war. This violence against an innocent people is a tragedy of immense proportions. It is also a violation of international law, and those who authored this war must be held accountable for their actions.

Americans will spend close to $2 trillion in Iraq by the time the costs of this war are totaled, but the longer term costs have included the undermining America's moral authority in the world, the separation of America from the nations and the peoples of the world, and the destruction of a domestic agenda which is being deferred while we borrow money from China to fight the war in Baghdad.

We need to call those who used 9/11 to take us into war against Iraq to an accounting under the U.S. Constitution, U.S. law, and international law. We must soon begin a period of truth and reconciliation in our own nation. We must have forums of open dialogue throughout the country where we can come together to remember who we were before 9/11, to share our personal narratives of the times when we felt most secure, most in love with our nation, most trustful of our democratic institutions. We must recover our capacity for civic action. We must reclaim our nation. The only way we can do that is to tell the truth.

1. This needs to be shouted from the rooftops...
The man speaks so simply, so truthfully, and with such integrity and honor...

We must recover our capacity for civic action. We must reclaim our nation. The only way we can do that is to tell the truth.

Such powerful language. It gives me hope for our future, our country's future...

I profoundly wish there were a way to get this into the hands of every person in our country...

If everyone could read this, they would be much more likely to support ending the war now...

You might not know it, but these are some of my darkest days. Yet when I see someone be so big as he is, it gives me strength.

Force divides us. And we need each other. There is only one way. That way is together.

----That's all for me today. Goodnight. Let's hope for a better tomorrow.

4. Gregorian, I've sensed from some of your other posts these last few weeks
that there are problems you are dealing with. As I recall a land deal, in particular. Remember there is hope in this world & we are blessed w/individuals like DK to help make our journey here a better one.
Our problems are so small compared to what MANY are dealing with after 7 years (really 26 yrs.) of selfish, corporate-driven policy in this country. WE are at a turning point on this planet. The 2008 election WILL determine the future of this planet! It's time we all got serious about keeping this orb together. The USA is not an island, nor supreme dictator of this planet. We've got to elect a person with a global vision that is not just about capitalism, but about humanism.

Chin up, & let's DO this TOGETHER! :pals:

I hope more people will open the ears for a minute and hear what it is Kucinich stands for. I also hope people don't vote without serious thought from within their hearts before the primaries, the country is at a turning point and we decide which way it turns!

6. Thanks.
It's just that I spent the last 18 years going from place to place, fixing up, being disappointed, selling, moving on, only to end up with nothing. Nothing but a god damned bank account. And the love of my life died in December. Yes, just a cat. So I can't even feel justified. But I'm more devastated right now than I was the day he died. He was all I loved on this planet. Why? Why the hell would they take the only thing I loved on a planet I really dislike now? And there's no place for me to go. Every place that is worth a crap is sky high in price. And now I can't even find a place that has dignity. That translates to silence without being on Mars. I realize that there is no perfect place. But I just want A place. A place to rest my bones. And I'm feeling horrible. Something changed in my body. I am still athletic. But I pay dearly for it. It's my head. I even went to the hospital, and the outsourced doctor from Bombay just told me to get married. No, there's something wrong. Maybe it'll heal itself. I even stopped drinking. Now I'm not even able to enjoy drinking. What's left is nothing. I left everything to find a home. Even my girlfriend. So I'm single, getting older, and nothing. I've about had it. I expected much more. I had dreams.

Having said that, you're right. And I do realize the other facet of life. The one outside of myself. That's what I've learned on DU. And I've learned that I am far better off than many Americans. I don't even need a job. And that's saying a lot. But most of my upset is about what people have done to the planet. The lack of place to live with dignity is indicative of that. And we're all headed for trouble if we continue down this serious road the fascists are taking us. So even though I am really upset because I haven't met super high expectations, I can see past it. Thanks. Being alone, it's hard to get a perspective.

I can only tell you how much I appreciate you and those who are here on this forum. The ones who care. Sometimes too much. If that's even possible. I value that and this place more than anything. We have a way to come together, if only electronically. But it's more than that. You exist. I exist. I sure hope we can make the changes that are needed. Maybe there is hope.

Gregg

7. Thanks for posting...
I hope the U.S. is ready to deal with THE TRUTH ~ to impeach the evil-doers and elect a president who does not cling to the status quo, but will lead our country toward its full potential.
