John Edwards garners support of just 3% of blacks in California. The number nationwide is very low.
Why is John Edwards, whose policies are friendly to minorities and the poor, brushed aside by African Americans?
I say it's because of lack of media coverage of his position on the issues, as opposed to great coverage of his haircut and investments.

This week, tell your black friend(s) about John Edwards, his universal health care plan, his record as a senator and his willingness to fight for the poor and the middle class.

I actually would have to stop and think which of my friends were "this" or "that". I know they're all beautiful. I know they're all intelligent, and kind, and compassionate. I know we all have a lot of laughs together. We all love our kids and grandkids. We all care about things outside our own lives. So, I was just talking to my friend who just happens to be African-American, and I asked her who she was voting for. She said she was voting for Obama. I asked her if she knew about John Edwards. She said she liked his message, but wasn't sure about his sincerity. Then she went on to talk about Elizabeth Edwards in the most glowing of terms... "Courage, chutzpah (yes, she really used that word), 'smarts', loyalty..." Have any of you considered that maybe the wrong Edwards is running?

That's my anecdotal story about telling one of my friends about Edwards this morning. She also said, btw, that she would vote for Jesse Helms before she'd vote for HRC. And, she's never vote for Jesse Helms.

Actually, my companion and Julian Bond were seated between me and Shaft. (Just by chance at a special showing. Seemed weird then and now, when they came in set next to us.)

And I prefer Edwards, as do most of my friends locally of all racial/ethnic flavors. That mostly reflects greater awareness and support in NC for the homestate candidate Edwards. Since I am white and in NC, it is harder for me to reach out to inform others. At least this gives me a good excuse to "my black friend" in Chicago and catch up.

And since the majority of Americans do little research on candidates, they base their opinions on the thoughts of others or by what they hear the candidates claim or say during interviews and news clips. Since Edwards has low poll numbers, they see no reason to consider him as a viable candidate.

This is a shame. I am a black voter and believe that Edwards is the better choice, but I spend much of my life on politcal blogs.

About the "slummy" neighbors who keep it that way "just to spite us"? About how John is the only electable Democrat, because he's a white man?(John) And about how John has a harder time raising money than Hillary or Obama because he's a white man?(Elizabeth) About how he joined a hedge fund to "learn about poverty"? Which hedge fund happened to invest quite heavily in sup-prime lenders, which John has given numerous "stirring speeches" condemning? About how he's against gay marriage, and "uncomfortable" around gays (they wanna snake him, don't you know) --- but also about his wife who is conveniently in favor of gay marriages (when speaking to the right crowd?) About how he once channeled the John Edwards that most of America remembers (that dude who purported to speak with the dead) and declaimed (with passion) to a Carolina jury that the poor dead girl he represented, well, he could hear her, he could feel her, she was speaking through him?

Can I tell them all that?
