Obama is expecting boost from youth in Iowa, but history raises doubts
The presidential campaign of Democratic Sen. Barack Obama campaign "is aggressively courting young Iowans to campaign and participate in the caucuses for the senator. Those young voters could make the difference on caucus night, Obama aides said. But that is a strategy that has not worked in the past. Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean's 2004 campaign heavily courted young, first-time caucusgoers, but the candidate finished in third place. 'The reality is, (Obama's) support is what I would consider light,' said Ann Selzer, president of Selzer & Co., the Des Moines opinion research company that conducts the Iowa Poll for the Register. 'It is heavy with younger people, and it is heavy with people who are registered independent. In the past, we have found them less likely to show up and be a part of this.' "

1. But this time, there's a major war with a looming draft
And this will be the impetus for young people to vote this time around. They want the war to end now!

2. How is that different from 2004? The history they are talking about is Dean in '04.

4. The corpmedia was OVER-reporting Dean's numbers then - Kerry carried the college

and younger demographics there, but you would never know it because the corpmedia was doing everything it could to distort the reality of the entire 2004 process.

They were messing with ALL of us, every supporter of every Democratic candidate.

Dan Rather's situation should put to rest ANY notion that ANY Democratic candidate not towing the fascist line for the media owners was going to get fair or even ANY positive coverage from the paid lackeys.

Funny how Lieberman always got respectful coverage from the mediawhores then. Now Hillary is getting it.

25. Or Hillary's. The media sure do love the DLC/neocon wing of the party.
It's the rest of us Democrats they hate.

24. The war wasn't nearly as universally unpopular in 2004 as it is now
Hell, most people thought the thing would be over with by 2008, but now everyone sees the trouble we're in. And young people are scared to death of a potential draft and this will cause them to actually vote and make a difference this time around.

12. I think there will be a huge increase in the youth vote in 2008.
The Young Adult age bracket isn't filled by Gen-Xers muttering "whatever" anymore.
