Will there be a Democratic Reagan era with Edwards?
Edwards seems like the kind of nice guy who not only appeals to Democrats but also to a wide section of the middle. He's also a fantastic and charismatic communicator.

Reagan was these things too (except that he appealed to Republicans and then a wide section of the middle, so much that even a Democratic Congress didn't really stymie his evil plans).

If Edwards is President in 2004, can he usher in 8 years where a Republican congress must do our bidding and where the President engenders wide support, with considerable support on the Republican side? I hope so.

1. Really interesting notion
I have heard him compared to John Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy and Bill Clinton, but this is a first for Reagan.

2. The same powers used to do good?
Man, that would be cool.

3. The Repubs won't treat Edwards the way the Dems did Reagan
Not with people like Tom DeLay in power. They won't support Edwards or Kerry any more than they did Clinton, so be prepared. However, if our president has the support of the majority of the people like Clinton did, it will be fun watching the Repukes pull their hair out in frustration.

4. I've said it before: he could be a statesman for the ages
This guy could be a leader of Lincoln or FDR proportions.

Many conservatives who are scared of, revolted by or just not cool with the reckless extremism of the Republicans will defect in small, but significant numbers, and they will stick with it to build the bridges necessary to heal some of the rifts in the country. Kerry can't claim that.

He is remarkably sensible. His policies make sense and are fiscally accurate and responsible.

After the degradation of everything, Edwards will have a tough row to hoe, but he's up to it.

Many will accept him who would not accept Kerry, and the joke is that he's AT LEAST as liberal. The populism issue clinches it: Edwards planks for rural voters is a breath of fresh air.
