Biden and Brownback to hold joint campaign event
By Klaus Marre
October 08, 2007

Sens. Joe Biden (D-Del.) and Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) will hold a joint campaign event in Des Moines, Iowa, this Friday to promote their decentralization plan for Iraq.

The two presidential hopefuls are polling in the single digits nationally and need a good showing in the country’s first caucus to keep their hopes for the nomination alive. The campaigns called the joint event “unprecedented.” The two senators are advocating a plan that would decentralize the Iraqi government and put in place a federal system.

The Senate passed a non-binding resolution supporting such a plan 75-23 last month. Both senators were lead sponsors, and Iowa's two senators also backed the plan.

“Joe and I might be running for the nomination of two different parties, but we agree on one thing: the American people want progress in Iraq and this represents a viable way forward to stability and success,” said Brownback.

“Partisan politics must not come in the way of finding a solution to the war in Iraq,” said Biden. “The overwhelming majority of Americans want us to get our troops out of Iraq as quickly as possible without leaving chaos behind.”

4. Thank you for saying that
The 90's ARE history and we can never go back there, just like we'll never go back to the 50's or any other time in history. I am all for peace and prosperity, but perhaps we can move toward a new era of peace and prosperity minus the apathy and complacency that was so prevalent in the 90's. For all the negative events we have experienced, I've noticed an awakening in people's consciousness. There is a new awareness of the world we live in and the democracy we've taken for granted for so long. Maybe something new and better can be born out of all this.

I liked to believe we are evolving and nothing evolves by going backwards.

2. He's going to be in Tipton, Iowa today...
for a meet and greet, and I'm planning on going to hear what the Senator has to say.

3. That's a good idea for so many reasons I can't count them w/o taking my shoes off...
and it helps position US in comparison to THEM.

It keeps us from eating our own and gets our message to a wider audience.

5. What an incredible and unique idea
Hardly politics as usual and both senators are to be commended for putting a vital issue before partisan politics.
