To me, 'out-conservative'-ing each other is like saying 'hey, I'm a bigger idot than you!'. Or how about 'I give even less of a shit than you do about...' (fill in the blank - the poor, the environment, foreign relations, the REAL future of our grandchildren, etc etc etc etc.). Or 'I ignore reality more than you do, nyah nyah'.
