Iraq on the back burner solely because the 2006 election was coming? That way Bush could a did deflect all questions on Iraq to "there is the study group looking at the issue".

The reason why I ask is because

1) the Conservatives in Canada are gunning for an election as we speak (they are a minority and are trying very hard to loose a vote on a confidence bill which would mean an immediate election)

2) Canadians are split on our soldiers being in Afghanistan with a slim majority against extending our mission past 2009.

3) the Conservatives have just started a group to study the war in Afghanistan lead by a former Liberal cabinet minister and a few other Canadians that might be trusted. They report back in a few months.

Is this deja vue alloveragain?

A way to deflect an unpopular war during an election and then the results of the study group will be ignored.
