Ron Paul Supporters, a Cult?
I've tried debating these guys and it's like talking to a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raelism">Raelian. Whenever I make a serious point, they say "this issue isn't important", or worse they give no answer and change the subject.

5. Ron Paul's Anally Probed Devotees
Well, of course the tinfoil hat crowd supports him, so maybe I could have answered my own question. To be honest with you I'm a little tinfoil hatty myself, and he does little for me.

2. some of the stuff he says makes perfect sense
but when it comes down to it this guy is a crazy corpratists. We don't belong in a war, we belong in a sweatshop as far as he is concerned, no government regulations let the invisable hand guide commerce naturally, yeah right corporations have done a great job already of being fair with the public.

11. Paul's world view denies Corporate power.....
His philosophy is still rooted in the fantasy of a "free market" responding to consumer need and desire. There is nothing free in Corporate controlled Capitalism, where need and desire are created by advertising and the product choices all originate from a few sources.

We don't live in a world where economic justice dictates that Bob's Shoe Store makes more money than Martha's Shoe Store because Bob's shoes are more comfortable and last longer than Martha's shoes. In the world we actually live in, both stores are owned by the same Corporation which sucks up both stores profits. Real market competition mostly doesn't exist.

In the world we actually live in, without government regulations the Corporations would eat the world--even faster than they already are.

3. Or simply a craze...
Those I've come across seem to have no idea where Paul stands on issues other than the war and the Constitution ~ like the fact that he's not pro-choice.

The craze will probably burn out as people read or hear him on other issues.

I'm Surprised Robertson didn't Endorse Him
Good point, he also voted against gay adoption in DC (I think congress makes a lot of decision for DC b/c they have no Senators or Congresspeople). I'm not sure but I think Paul is friendly to the religious right.

6. so many new "Oh i've always been a libertarian" people, it's hilarious.
Paul gives that "I'd live in a compound" voting block somewhere to put their vote. the flavor of the month.

7. That's not altogether unfair
I wonder if a lot of people that support him really understand the ramifications of his policies.

He frames it by talking about the Constitution, but what he really wants is corporate anarchy.

Edited on Sun Nov-11-07 01:28 PM by Rabo Karabekian
When I've told the Paulites that I don't like him simply because he's a libertarian, they say well he doesn't necessarily agree with libertarians. Why then would he identify himself as a libertarian?

18. Yes. It just so happens that his case is dangerously unhinged.
We tried his way once. It was called "the Gilded Age." It sucked.

13. Paul is getting his time in the limelight. I think he's a dangerous kook,
and that's on a good day.

On bad days I think he's quite a bit worse.

I'm doing my best to avoid his supporters but I'm aware that they're out there, and aware that Paul has a buck or two to spend on this campaign.

In a concurrent thread I'm wondering outloud if Paul in Iowa drains "libertarian/independent" Republican caucus-goers, which, combined with Huckabee's likely appeal to nutbag fundie Iowa caucus-goers, might be enough to bury Giuliani's 2008 campaign alive.

It would be interesting to see Giuliani hobbling into New Hampshire after finishing fourth behind Romney, Huckabee, and Paul.

Edited on Sun Nov-11-07 02:36 PM by Rabo Karabekian
I like that Rondroids, like Mike Malloy and Truthseekers (obviously truthseekers are much smarter than Rondroids, I'm just saying as far as fans/supporters of an individual).

In that it's people driven. Lots of similarities.

20. same with most anyone else who hitches himself to a "leader"
No need to limit it to Ron Paul's people. The same thing happens on here with supporters of every candidate, save Gravel, who doesn't actually seem to have any real supporters. The leader can do no wrong, and to criticize him (or her) is akin to criticizing his or her thralls.
