Oprah No Match For Bill: CBS Poll
Edited on Mon Dec-10-07 11:14 PM by SaveElmer

But even while Oprah campaigns in the key early states, few voters nationwide say they are being swayed her. 80% say her involvement in his campaign doesn't make a difference. Just 1% say her support will make them more likely to vote for Obama.

OPRAH'S INVOLVEMENT IN BARACK'S CAMPAIGN (Among Democratic Primary Voters)
More likely to vote for 1%
Less likely to vote for 14
No difference 80

For now, Hillary Clinton may be winning the celebrity endorsement battle. More than four in 10 Democratic primary voters say Bill Clinton's involvement in his wife's campaign makes them more likely to support her. Just as many say his involvement makes no difference.

BILL CLINTON'S INVOLVEMENT IN HILLARY'S CAMPAIGN (Among Democratic Primary Voters)
More likely to vote for 44%
Less likely to vote for her 7
No difference 46

If not for hubby Bill, Hillary wouldn't even be a NY Senator.

And then, after somebody else disagreed with that, you said, "Its not talking points from the ass, anybody who thinks she would have been a NY senator...is dellusional." That was in specific reference to reference outlined above.

There ya go. Anymore dumb questions?

and she was saying that she couldn't vote for Obama because he was so inexperienced. She further said that she was not swayed by Oprah's endorsement. She mentioned that even her uncle, who had been very active during the civil rights era, thought that it was overreaching and that it might cause a backlash.

At work I'm careful not to talk too much about politics, but she overheard me on the phone confirming a campaign meeting Thursday evening. She approached me and told me that she had decided to vote for Hillary and her reasons were basically the same as I hear from most people who lean her way: experience and that they like the way that she has handled herself in the senate. Some also mention Bill, but not all. Around here Hillary is not a tough sell, she's by far the most popular Dem. in the race. Among the Dems. the most reviled Repug is definitely Giuliani, not a surprise considering how many of us lived through his mini dictatorship. Prior to 9/11 Rudy couldn't have gotten elected dog catcher and look at him now, the possible Repug. nominee. It's enough to make anyone ill!!!!

21. I would hope a former President carrioes more weight than a talk-show host
I'm no Hillary supporter or fan of Bill, and I do like Oprah.

But I think it's relatively healthy that people would pay more attention to a former president than a talk-show host in a political campaign.

It shows we haven't completely sunk into a celebrity-obsessed culture yet.

I wonder what polls they are going to do to try to act like 30,000+ people showing up at a rally is many times more than any rally where Bill had to show his wife he publicly cheated on that she has validity... the poll by CBS is inane.

to providing the kind of leadership this country needs as either Gore or Kerry.

It's not about WHO endorses/campaigns for/handles them, it is about who they are and how well they handle pressure, make leadership decisions, commit to principles, etc.

Lest we forget, that in 2000 and 2004, an incompetent person landed the WH -- someone who never should have even gotten close to Pennsylvania Avenue -- all because Americans allowed themselves to be swayed by campaign hype, handlers, and spin.

78. Oprah will make no difference to Barack, but Bill cannot fix Hillary's flaws either.
The candidates themselves have to make the sale. Hillary is now back down to reality with about a hard base of 30-35% who would go with Hillary regardless. Barack is at 25% and holding for months.
Both candidates can't be saved by others. If they can't change any minds, it isn't going to happen.
And both can be beaten for the nomination.
