Chris Matthews predicts Joe Biden to be in top 3 in Iowa
Dec. 10: On tonight’s “Hardball,” Chris Matthews switched John Edwards from the #3 Democratic candidate spot in Iowa, took him off his personal predictions “Power Rankings” list, and replaced him with Democratic presidential candidate U.S. Senator Joe Biden.

Mr. Matthews predicts Hillary Clinton will be the #1 choice for Caucus-goers in Iowa, followed by Barack Obama in the #2 spot, and Senator Joe Biden in the #3 spot.

On the Chris Matthews personal “Hardball Power Rankings” list, Senator Biden ranks higher than John Edwards, Bill Richardson, Chris Dodd, Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel.

17. I am pretty sure he has been on Mathews
More than any other candidate runing. The guy practicaly lived on there in the begining of the war and pretty much up till he threw his hat in the ring. Hes been right on this war from my view pretty much all the way through and been vocal about it. At least on TV, in the backrooms of congress I think he may be a tad to gentalmanly for these times.

72. Yes, best be prepared.
The good news is that we already know the flimsy attacks they'll use, but the guy is solid. There is little of substance to go after him on. Disagreements on a couple of votes. The plagiarism charges, and the only guilt involved there is one case where he forgot to attribute a couple of lines to a British politician. But he had been remembering to give the guy credit except for that one time and a political opponent, Mike Dukakis, used it against him. He took full responsibility for his oversight and that was that, no excuses just owning up to it. He didn't make it where he is today riding on someone else's coattails; he didn't do cocaine; he's certainly not inexperienced; he isn't despised by Independents and moderate Republicans; he doesn't have to bs because he's been there, done that. He is in a unique position to do a really fine job as president. Wake up my fellow Democrats. He is the logical choice.

republican talking points. Of course, if they are impersonating lefties, they may try to imitate us and our values. It usually is glaringly obvious though. Righties aren't very subtle.

32. Matthews had the famous, "Al Gore should not concede this election"
in the middle of the night after Election Day while the cameras were pointed at a stage in Nashville where Al Gore was expected to announce his concession. Apparently, Gore's staff heard this and the narrowed totals in Florida.

And Matthews was right about Iraq.

I can't stand him, but he's right once in a while.

And if he likes Joe Biden, I won't hold it against Joe.

51. I agree
The money behind the media doesn't want Edwards, and they have been doing eveything they can to prevent him from getting the nomination, and that just sucks in my book! This should be a sign for people that Edwards has something going for him when the powers in this country, big money, don't want him to get elected. They know he is the only one on the dem ticket that will kick ass and put an end to their greedy, sick, destruction of this country. Edwards is the one person that will work for the "people" not corporations, and they will do all they can to stop him. I think the American people are fed up with the "corporate" leaders running this country and selling out the American people. I realy think they will put Edwards in the whitehouse and get the change that we deserve!

Go Edwards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:woohoo:

According to Tweety at the time, the sight of Bush on the aircraft carrier was sealing the doom of the Democrats for decades and cementing GW's place in history as a hero.

He said in the 04 election, that would be the symbol of the Bush campaign.

in fact, he has stated it himself, that when you predict what everyone else predicts, nobody notices. when you predict what nobody else predicts, if you are wrong, nobody cares, but if you are right, everyone thinks you were a genius. and he wrote that in his column opposing the Iraq War as I remember.

11. I think he's calling this one correctly.
Sometimes Chris Matthews gets it right and I think this is one of those times. Among other things Biden has 2 big advantages in Iowa: 1)He's more qualified than any of the other candidates (an advantage he has everywhere he goes), and 2)Iowans tend not to be easily influenced by hype and fluff. They are good at boiling it all down to the essentials, which is good news for Biden and bad news for the "top tier" who have to rely, in large part, on the things money can buy, i.e, hype and fluff.

that he's been hearing about Biden more lately, and then spent the next 15 minutes building up the tension between
Hillary and Barack. Not another word about Joe.

To all of you saying he dissed Edwards - he didn't. Well he did, but not in that segment.

btw -Why was Edwards laughing like that when he was on yesterday? He reminded me of Hillary or Rudy answering questions by laughter instead of by answers.

29. He thrives on conflict
He loves the fight and if there is no fight, he instigates one. I remember him saying numerous times that Obama had to step up and take on Hillary. So Obama did just that and was criticized for negative politics. I'm sure Matthews loved it.

It isn't a matter of who he supports (if anyone), it is where there is conflict. I do believe he was sincere about the war though. His face changes and he becomes very somber.

90. And remember that I said it very calmly
and dispassionately. I really believe it is a possibility; it has happened before.

43. Chris needs help
Chris says some outlandish, and even incoherent, things. And the level of his commentary has sunk so low (not that it ever was that high) that I really wonder if something has happened to his brain. Seriously, the man isn't prime-time competent. But MSNBC keeps giving him the hour anyway.

Just because he talks fast doesn't mean he actually says anything that matters.

47. I hate the way he keeps talking over his guests
It is really annoying and rude. It is like he's trying to answer his own questions.

48. Yep, Matthews is more excitably virulent
than Pat Buchanan now. It's impossible to watch, sometimes he'll say something worth listening to, but basically he just rants bs without any regard to the truth.

71. Granted it's Tweety but he's middle America, which might not see a black man or a woman as president
And we need the moderates to win.

Believe me I wish it was different.

73. Tweety's not middle America,
he's a Washington chic wannabe. He's been pushing Obama hard, so I'm not sure what your point is.

75. Not so much Tweety but swing voter
Just that the moderate American may have a bit of a problem voting for either Obama or Hillary. It shouldn't be that way but I keep thinking of the 'good old boys' and wonder if we need some of them to vote democratic in Nov.
I guess it boils down to that 'electability' thing.

He turns 63 next week. He's been a reporter and/or columnist for a good 40 years. He's hardly a wannabe.

74. I smell a new man crush
Maybe Matthews has finally gotten over Bush. Of course he can't go for the obvious-Edwards because of course Edwards is real progressive and Tweety REALLY hates them.

79. Who cares .....
Nothing against Joe Biden, I think he's a fine candidate, but Tweety is a legend in his own mind.

Maybe Tweety is close but what he lacks in brains he gains in audacity so I don't pay too much attention to his predictions.

81. I don't either
It is the media coverage that matters. For the MSM there are only two Dems in the race and occasionally a third when they choose to acknowledge that Edwards is running also.

101. True
I think Matthews problem is he tends to think out loud and often says things that are kind of off the wall. When he is firm in his convictions, his whole demeanor changes.

Iowa has never elected a woman to higher office. Nationally, Edwards is not going to fair well and Democrats know this.

102. For the most part, the media is clueless
as to what is going on on the ground in Iowa. They tend to focus on the big rallies, which evidently don't influence serious voters in Iowa.
