More MEDIA CONSOLIDATION.....Hearing tomorrow!
And vote by the commissioners next week.

Please take action and keep the GD thread kicked.

Details at this thread

Today is Your Last Chance To Speak Out To Save Our Media From The FCC

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x2445708

"The action page above will send your personal message not only to all
five of the FCC commissioners, but to all your members of Congress as
well, who are already working at their end to stop this rash proposed
giveaway by passing the Media Ownership Act of 2007. There is strong
bipartisan support for this bill, but they need your support to make
this legislation actually happen."

Some additional information within the thread...

"Bill Moyers tells us:

There's a new twist this week. Despite overwhelming public opposition from across the country and the political spectrum, the Chairman of the FCC, Kevin Martin, isn't letting up in his relentless push to allow a handful of media giants swallow up more of your local media.

He made it official on Tuesday: He intends to lift the longstanding ban that keeps one company from owning both the daily newspaper and a radio or television station in the same market."

2. FCC update...
http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DOC-278897A1.pdf

"FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEWS MEDIA CONTACT:

December 12, 2007 Rick Chessen (202) 418-2000
Rudy Brioche (202)418-2300

JOINT STATEMENT OF COMMISSIONER MICHAEL J. COPPS AND
COMMISSIONER JONATHAN S. ADELSTEIN

We are deeply disappointed that the announced agenda for the December 18 open
meeting includes media ownership. This is a huge mistake. The FCC should have heeded the
calls of Congress and the American people to conduct a credible process on an issue of this
importance to our very democracy. That means providing a meaningful opportunity for public
input, rather than the callous disregard exhibited thus far – most recently, the Chairman
circulated a draft decision on his proposal two weeks before public comment was even due! And
it means taking meaningful action on minority and female ownership and broadcast localism,
rather than the mish-mash of half-baked ideas currently before us.

We have been engaged in internal discussions to try to get our processes back on track.
We wish those discussions had led to better results. At this point, given the lateness of the hour,
we hope that either we can turn this around internally, or that Congress can save the FCC from
itself."

8. one day more Dems will realize that all issues rise and fall around THIS media issue.
And the bottom line to it all is the CORRUPTION that abets the fascist takeover.

9. Very well said!!! And the media does not even cover the story
:(

And then even at DU it receives hardly any attention.

OT, I believe that I missed a reply to you on Henry Gonzalez being included in your 'hero list' and then lost the thread...sorry.

12. Well, I probably already have enough targets :) As for being
on the same wavelength let's say that we believe allowing people to walk away from crimes weakens our nation as a whole.

14. Exactly....
but you say it more kindly than I do. I have less tolerance for fellow Dems at this point - at least for the Dems who I know are part of the problem.

6. Just to be clear the hearing mentioned in the OP is not the
current heating in the Senate.

The FCC is scheduled to vote next week.

13. The hearing just ended but hopefully it will be repeated on
cspan tonight. People should try and listen and then send comments to the FCC Commissioners as they vote next week.

Thanks for the kick, I cannot think of a more important topic.
