Priest tells Fox: Democratic platform 'goes against Biblical teachings'
The leading Republican candidates for the presidential nomination have all been campaigning heavily on their religious beliefs. The Democrats have also touched on the importance of faith in their lives, but have not made it a campaign issue in the same way.

Father Jonathan Morris, a conservative Catholic priest who regularly offers comnmentary for Fox News, was asked on Fox & Friends why there is "less of a response" from Democrats when it comes to talking about God. Morris first giggled and quipped, "Would you like me to give you the politically correct answer?"

Morris then explained, "When you have a political platform, like the Democratic platform right now, that on major issues goes against Biblical teaching, okay -- about abortion, about homosexual marriage, other issues -- it's very, a delicate issue. Now, this is not judging any Democrat's individual faith, but when their platform goes against Biblical teaching they know they have to be careful when they start getting into details."

When asked whether the Republican platform also goes against Christian doctrine on issues like poverty, Morris replied somewhat cryptically, "There's always a hierarchy of value. When there's no life that's permitted, poverty is not an issue." Morris may have been trying to say that aborted fetuses don't get the chance to be poor, so poverty doesn't have to be addressed until after the abortion issue is resolved.

3. Hey, wait a second. If there's a "hierarchy of value", then why on Earth is same-sex marriage...
Apparently a bigger issue than poverty?

5. Father Morris: if the Republicans are so much better, how do you suppose
Jesus feels about the violence, death, and destruction in Iraq? Because those are all things The Bible supports, right?

And I guess he's thrilled with divorce, and leaders who lie, cheat, and steal so their buds can make big bucks, right?

Father Morris, if you believe this to be true, you are seriously misguided or a huge hypocrite.

11. This begs the question of why the Roman Catholic Church finds
that marriage for their clergy is out of bounds?

it also makes me wonder if he realizes that the history of the RC Church has been an engine of social change in the US. On most social issues, they are really quite liberal; the exceptions being the church's stance on gay rights & abortion. The RCC was in the forefront on most civil rights issues and has had an impact on poverty, housing and other issues that face the nation.

I am not a Catholic, but I have interacted with many, and have seen what the RCC has done in many aspects of society...it's not all about pedophile priests, abortion and an unblinking support of Papal authority.

Morris is a jerk...jsut another fool that got some air-time.

12. Preach it, Brother Morris, you nitwit!
But alas, the Catholic Church has long given up any right to claim itself as some sort of moral authority when it has become apparent that they shuffle around pedophile priests instead of kicking them out, and then they try to hide their assets when an abused church member brings suit.

14. He's right. Dems are against stoning disobedient children.
Also, outlawing mixed fabric would severely harm the US clothing industry (or what's left of it.)

16. Father Morris sounds like a blockhead.
As I scan the New Testament, I get a stronger Democratic plaform vibe than a Republican platform vibe, and in any case, this guy doesn't even speak well for his own Church.

The FOX News go-to Catholic role pretty much seals the deal for me. If he's on FOX's newsroom rolodex, I'm better off watching something else.

Like the Teletubbies.

17. This is too funny........
abortion, homosexual marriage and "other issues". Nice try "Father" Morris. Too bad he was on Fox and didn't get the obvious follow-up question "what other issues?". Count me a Christian who is sick of people like this clown telling me that progressive values are anti-God. Abortion and gay marriage, they have nothing else. When will the sheep figure it out?

20. I'd like to know what fricking bible these people are reading
My bible had jesus treat everyone equal, reach out to the poor and hell turn water into wine!

Jesus had no money to his name, no equitity, no real estate and relied on the goodness of others to make it thru life.

Jesus taught me to:
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"
"Turn the other Cheek"
"When Praying, do so in a quiet, humble manner"
"Not to Judge others" (he who is without sin let them cast the first stone)

So someone please tell me what fricking bible are these folks reading because I see way more of the democratic party in Jesus than I do the republican party.
