Poll question: Is it sexist to not support Condi Rice?
Since we're playing Gender Card Pro these days...

2. I think that some of the comments about her are sexist
Edited on Wed Dec-19-07 10:50 AM by Evergreen Emerald
Support her or don't support her for the job she is doing, but stop with the sexist crap. It demeans all women, even democratic women when their worth is reduced purposefully to physical attributes.

7. Lookee! Somebody got gamed on the "Sexist" card
I find it pathetic that Hillary supporters think that if you don't support her, you're a sexist. It's a hoot knowing MANY women who will never vote for her...are they sexist too?

13. Except I'm not a Hillary supporter -- or a creep.
Edited on Wed Dec-19-07 11:55 AM by ThatPoetGuy
I'm fully behind Edwards. Hillary and Obama are tied in 2nd, for me.

A couple of years ago, I got on someone here for calling Condoleezza Rice a "Sleestak." I'd get on anyone who went after Obama with racially-charged language. I'd get on anyone who used suggestive language to try and tie Obama to racial stereotypes.

When people attack Hillary for her policies, that's totally fair game. When you attack her for being "shrill," or for her "cackle" (because witches cackle), or attack her for looking old, or say there's something wrong when she "dominates" a debate, or attack her for being too "sharp" or describe her holding metaphorical "knives," then you're conjuring gender-based hostilities.

A lot of Obama supporters on this site sound like the He-Man Woman Haters Club. I've never seen a Hillary supporter, or anyone on this site, use the derogatory language of racism to try to channel racial hatred towards Obama.

But gosh, you fellas will do anything to deny what's really going on. So impressed.

6. The fact that she's a woman has nothing to do with it.
Edited on Wed Dec-19-07 11:03 AM by AndyA
If she were a man, I would feel the same about her. She is doing a horrible job, and she has nothing to show for her efforts in office except a string of failed policies, failed attempts to come to terms with other countries, and undying support for an administration that is also a colossal failure to the American people.

Male, female, white, black, or otherwise, she's a failure. But her failure is hers alone, and does not reflect on the rest of her sex. I'm certain there are many other women who given this position could perform their duties in a respectable manner and produce results.

Ummm...the name Madeleine Albright comes to mind. ;)

9. If one opposed Condi Rice because she was a woman that would be sexist
Edited on Wed Dec-19-07 11:04 AM by Tom Rinaldo
If one opposed her for other reasons that would not be sexist. What's so hard to understand about that? If one wants to oppose her policies and in so doing deleberately uses sexist crap to attack her with, that would be morally quesionable to me.

10. Absolutely, and beautiful picture!
It must be difficult to airbrush out the scowl lines, but I think this shows her true inner beauty.

12. In the unvarnished world of identity politics, then to simply call out a person for an identity,
whether it be gender, "race," ethnicity, religion or lack thereof is so 20th Century.

For example, Mrs. Clinton is a white Methodist female, I loath her politics. On the other hand, I absolutely adore me some Barbara Boxer and she is a whtie female Jew. Congresswoman Jackson-Lee, a black female of religion of which I am unaware is a hero of mine.

Therefore, in all candor, I can say that I despise Condi Rice, her negritude, or lack thereof, gender, etc. excluded.

Being a traditionally excluded member of the team does not mean that adding an individual or two will make them a great player.

16. Negritude is the French term for embracing blackness in France, as opposed to the colonial persona..
It is in the dictionary, and was quite the popular term in artistic circles for a spell when French Africans and former Franophone colonial Africans were shaking off their colonial identity for a distinct African one.

Knee jerk is so charming when exposed for ignorance.
