Girl, 9, gets mom to back Obama

Girl, 9, gets mom to back Obama

The Capital-Journal

Published Thursday, January 10, 2008

A Lawrence school psychologist says a letter written by her 9-year-old daughter is what swayed her to back Sen. Barack Obama in his 2008 presidential campaign.

Claudine Boldridge, 37, said her daughter, Olivia, wrote a letter about Obama and was asked to share that letter during a campaign kickoff event featuring the Illinois senator this past May in Kansas City, Mo.

Before Boldridge would let her daughter make the public appearance, she decided to research Obama and his stances on the issues.

"I've voted since I was 18, and no one have I researched (like this)," she said.

As she learned more about the candidate, she discovered she agreed with his stands on immigration, the Iraq war and all other issues, except abortion.

"But I'm willing to vote for him in spite of that," she said.

Obama favors abortion rights. In a recent Democratic presidential debate, he said: "I think that most Americans recognize that this is a profoundly difficult issue for the women and families who make these decisions. They don't make them casually. And I trust the women to make these decisions in conjunction with their doctors and their families and their clergy."

3. My 6 month old grandson helps me decide. As well as the
2, 4, and 6 year old ones too. I look at them and listen to them, and they help me consider what type of world I want to leave behind me.

4. Try reading. It would help
The mother was propelled by her daughter's enthusiasm to look into the candidate. She stated that she agrees with his positions except for abortion. That makes it clear that she investigated his positions.

7. Well considering the mom RESEARCHED Obama and saw that they she and he. . .
. . .shared many of the same positions, with the exception of abortion, yes she should.

Also, if you read the article you will see that her research was due to the fact that she just didn't want her daughter going to participate in the event without knowing more about Obama.
