What the fuck? Chris Matthews talking up Obama on Leno.
Edited on Thu Jan-17-08 12:24 AM by Kerry2008
He said Obama's speeches in person are very moving, and he said if you go to his rallies and don't cry you're unAmerican.

Yes, that Chris Matthews.

I was shocked too. He went on and on and on and on about how great Obama was.

Wow.

7. but he was the same way about Hillary last night after the debate. He's full of himself.
In 2004 a couple of Du'rs met him in a dc hotel bar, talked with him and they said he was full of himself.

He's giving his opinion which really isn't a good idea in his line of work.

11. Which is one reason why I think it would be great to see Edwards take a state this weekend.
My god, the sheer entertainment of watching them running around in circles, walking in to walls, and falling out of their chairs. I see Mathews with his head down crying, Buchanan's head spinning in circles, and that NH poll woman screaming - Listen to me, It's considered and offense, Listen to me, Why won't anyone listen to me.

10. The unAmerican comment was way out of line.
However, Obama's speeches are very moving. It doesn't take that nutbag to tell anyone that.

20. He was on Leno just before 06 elections
and I caught the end of it. He was more partisan about the election than I ever heard him on his show.

Mostly he was so passionate about voting. I am sure he got some people to vote who might have sat on their butts because it was just a mid-term.

He was talking about how much our votes mattered, we were what could make a difference. It was in our hands.
If we liked the way things were going and wanted them to keep going that way go vote republican.
But if we want to see things change we could do it, we could vote for Democrats to get a new direction. (Boy was he overly optimistic)
Just go vote, it's in our hands.

He was great...and that was better on Leno than on his show. People who watch political shows will probably already vote but Leno's crowd could use that inspiration. Some races were so close he could have made the difference with that talk.

Regarding Obama he is saying what many journalists and news people were saying, stumbling over words trying to describe the reaction of the crowd and themselves. Some said things like they avoided tears but couldn't stop the goose bombs.
Some said it before the NH vote but more said it as part of describing their surprise that he didn't win, huge crowds and long lines shocking and then the reaction of the crowd. They compared that to the other rallies they went to which were often fine speeches and enthusiastic crowds but no comparison.
Then they'd summarize with something like "Of course a lot of people didn't hear him speak..."

It was odd and amusing to hear that kind of talk from these stoic political reporters
