And to all you so called progressives on DU...Taylor Marsh was running a smear campaign against Howard Dean when he was running for the head of the DNC, because the DLC didn't want him in that position. I agree with you that dubious sources should be avoided - such as Rove, Paglia, drudge etc. Is this Marsh a right winger or something? Not familiar.
Anyway, when I saw the link to that, I didn't even click - just asked if those were his words or spin. I was told - it was Obama on a video - his own words - then I checked.

I have no use for the shrill bag of wind that is Taylor Marsh, but I have to take issue with the characterization of the DLC role in the 2005 DNC chair's race.

The DLC leadership did not get involved in that contest. Several of the candidates for chair had ties to the DLC, including Tim Roemer, who is a frequent participant in DLC national security panel discussions, and Simon Rosenberg, who founded the New Democrat Network and had the support of many under-40 elected New Democrats. The DLC had a scrap with Dean in the presidential contest, but that did not carry over to the chairmanship race.

Full disclosure: I was part of a group of Democratic state officials who signed a letter supporting Simon Rosenberg. I believe Dean has done a solid job as DNC chair. My real fear was that Donny Fowler, who had the backing of some distasteful characters in my state's Democratic party, would be the winner.
