Better way of keeping one foot in the general election: Praising Reagan or denouncing terrorists?

Candidate A is keeping their foot in the general election by denouncing a real, common enemy.

Candidate B is trying to do it by "unifying" around a divisive failure of an ex president who said AIDS was god's punishment against gays and whose fiscal mismanagement caused the (Democratic) president Candidate B trashed (Clinton) to have to dig the US out of the divisive ex president's fiscal and foreign policy hell hole, which the Democratic president did successfullly.

Candidate A is trying to peel off voters from the right by acknowledging a common cause of defeating foreign enemies who hate all Americans.

Candidate B is trying to peel off voters from the right by acknowledging he agrees with their hero who unified America over hatred of certain "kinds" of Americans.
