What Is Your Favorite Example of Faux Outrage on DU?
Faux outrage has been the go-to tactic for conservatives for many years, but they are starting to get alot of company. I suppose that the history of the Democratic party has its own trail of whiny interest groups who are more interested in getting stroked than helping America, and they are certainly no strangers to faux indignation.

But we are not conservatives or whiny interest groups. We are committed progressives who put a premium on truth, justice and a healthy dose of reason. At least in theory.

I considered listing a few examples, but where to start?

1. The accusations of "Rovean politics" against Hillary--themselves a classic case of Rovean politics.

8. It's This Year's Hitler Comparison
I am hardly the biggest fan of Clinton, but I think Obama can be proven the better candidate without cheap hits like this.

Did I mention that Edwards practically worships Hitler? But you didn't hear it from me.

9. i know. those of us who personally got shafted by him should just get over it
say, for example, those of us personally affected by the ATC strike in 1981...we need to get over it.

26. Haven't heard anyone suggest that you, or anyone else, should get over
your hatred of Reagan. Nor should any of us get over our hatred for Hitler, Stalin, or Mao or any other such people. They were all agents of change (not for the better), just like Reagan. Just because one acknowledges that does not make one a Hitler-lover.

4. No specific examples, but I can usually smell a whiff of it when there's
a specific candidate involved--there will always be supporters of other candidates who make sure they WAYYY overstate the grievance and the potential fallout when an opportunity presents itself--usually there's an "Oh, he's toast" or "his campaign's imploding" somewhere in the mix.

7. I agree....
when Hillary lost Iowa some of the posts were as follows: Hillary is finished, Hillary's campaign is imploding, Hillary is out of money and so on, it was incredible and I couldn't believe what was being written.

Was it the comment from Bush that he was shocked that there were black people in Brazil?

14. No, I'm guessing it was something like this...
The president was watching TV when he heard 5 Brazilian troops were killed in Iraq. Eventually he ends up asking someone how many a 'Brizillion' was.

Pretty much ruins the humor of the joke, but I figured I'd just jump straight to the punchline. :D

Edited on Fri Jan-18-08 06:56 PM by LoZoccolo
...in a state that is 97% white, where the state is so small that cabinet positions aren't even full-time and are junky jobs anyways, and where he had offered a position to at least one African-American who had turned it down because it was not a very desirable position!

I'm sick of people trying to win arguments by claiming that they know whether others' outrage is real or not.
