1. I like to think...

...that latinos don't vote as a group, with each man and woman making his/her own individual decision.

That being said, congrats on the likely win in Nevada. :)

28. Unfortunately, race still plays a part in American politics. It may
very well have hurt Obama today in Nevada. Next week it may help him in South Carolina. And if he gets the nomination, it may hurt him in the national campaign.

It would be nice if it were no longer a factor; but it is.

At least it is no longer as large a factor as religion. Can you imagine an openly atheistic candidate or even an agnostic one getting the nomination of either party these days? This is especially ironic given most of our founding fathers were Deists who had rejected Christianity.

2. Win black vote, get hammered in Latino and white vote...yeah, that'll work. Not.
Edited on Sat Jan-19-08 03:50 PM by BadgerLaw2010
Whoever came up with this particular racial tilt to his campaign should be axed, tarred and feathered. Latinos don't exactly dig this sort of thing.

I thought Obama was supposed to be post-racial.

The Clinton campaign. They had their surrogates out for weeks pointing out how black Obama is. They're the ones that injected race- not Obama.

40. I get that way sometimes. But I also think that trumpeting the prediction
that Obama isn't going to win California because it's full of Latinos is kind of uncool. The OP is implying that Obama's loss among Nevada Latinos isn't because of his debate performance, his campaigning, or anything else that they might have seen up close--the OP is extrapolating a racial preference among Latinos across the board that will help Hillary. I don't think that's happy news for the country, myself, if true.

66. ?--You responded to me first by calling me "sour grapes"--actually, that
might have been applicable if I had ever complained that Obama lost because of voting machines, or because whites are racist, or dirty tricks, or whatever--but I didn't. I didn't "take any shit" out on you, or insult you, or do anything other than reply to the OP and reply to you when you replied to me, and I did so respectfully. I did not turn up on one thread today trying to belittle Hillary's win, or excuse Obama's loss. All I did was get a little annoyed at a Hillary supporter pushing a damaging meme (that happens to be beneficial to Hillary, whether anyone wants to admit that or not) about Obama--this isn't a victory/celebratory thread, mind you, or a pro-Hillary thread, it's a slam-Obama thread--and thus I responded. All I'm saying is this isn't the day for BS like this.

They'll just do us in during the general. When their own unions are behind him, and they still won't vote for him, I don't think America will vote for him. I assume such a large margin has to do with race when it is so disproportionate with other groups.

could not win the Latino vote in the General Election? How does a preference for Clinton over Barack in the primary translate into a preference for a Republican over Obama in the GE?

Did you assume that because white people in Iowa preferred Obama to Clinton then Hillary didn't have a chance to win the white vote in the General?

Edited on Sat Jan-19-08 06:22 PM by Essene
Hillary Clinton getting strong latino showing doesnt mean they cant support Obama (esp when the facts show that's not true).

The issue is that Clinton's camp has been stirring up racial division and it paid off here.

It will do the reverse in SC.

Either way... making race into an issue hurt Obama in the end and hurts the entire Democratic party.

Fools.

The LV casino industry wants to be able to hire illegals. The scams that go on in this state are amazing - related to identity theft, etc. with employers keeping lists of names and SSN that can be used. Homeland Security busted McDonalds for doing that recently. Everyone is afraid to go after the casinos.

62. Reading the posts above people seemed shocked that Latinos did not vote for BO
At least in Chicago Latinos tend not to vote for Blacks and vice versa in tightly contested races.

This is a fact.

Individual candidates can always vary the vote.

Grow up. Acting offended because someone points out this fact won't change the fact or give you more credibility.
