Josh Marshall: Dean is "playing the defection card."

<snip>

"I don't care if Dean says he'll endorse whoever wins. He's playing the defection card. And that crosses the line."

"I don't doubt that it would be hard to reconcile some Dean supporters to another Democratic nominee. But that's not the point. By saying it, he's leveraging it, and encouraging it."

"The price of admission to the Democratic primary race is a pledge of committed support to whomever wins the nomination, period. (The sense of entitlement to other Democrats' support comes after you win the nomination, not before.) If Dean can't sign on that dotted-line, he has no business asking for the party's nomination. "

Marshall hits it right on the head. Party loyalty is essential with our candidates. Candidates, of all people, can't go around suggesting that people vote outside the party.

1. I'm trying to be the good party loyalist
We need to get rid of bush and replace him with one of our candidates. But why is Dean alienating me? If he is the nominee I will be on his bandwagon for the duration. Whining to Mcauliffe is no way to endear yourself to me (or probably others). Suck it up and march on Governor. I sure would like to see a pledge of support for each other from ALL candidates. Is that too much to expect from a loyalist?

2. Have to disagree
The choice we currently have is between the Republicans and the folks who say they're not Republicans (but vote that way).

We need an option for Democrats. If Dean wants to provide it, great.

I also note that Kucinich is not voicing any criticism against Dean.

7. Dean governed like a Republican, how is he a good choice?

Kucinich is complaining that Dean continues to claim he's the "only" candidate who opposed the war from the start. I'm sure he doesn't approve of Dean's disloyal comments, either,

12. Oh, you mean he governed
like the DLC candidates you had no problem endorsing when Clinton made Democrats who govern like Republicans fashionable?

11. That's odd. It wasn't posted at TPM until

5 p.m. yesterday and I was here all night without seeing a post about it.

10. I'm becoming more and more convinced...
Dean isn't ready for prime time. He just doesn't have the judgement to be our president.

13. Oh yes
You're so right. Running onto the field at the jets game naked was the worst decision he made up to this point.
