Obama: I feel like I'm running against both Clintons
Obama: I feel like I'm running against both Clintons
Posted: 11:15 AM ET

MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina (CNN) – More tit-for-tat on the campaign trail – only this time, it’s between Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.

After losing the caucus tally in Nevada, the Obama campaign took aim at Bill Clinton and the comments he made during his many campaign stops in that state on behalf of his wife, Hillary Clinton.

Now the Illinois senator himself is taking on the former president, telling Good Morning America that he feels as if he’s running against both Clintons.

In the interview, Obama said that the former president has been misrepresenting both “my record of opposition to the war in Iraq” and “our approach to organizing in Las Vegas,” as the controversy over Saturday’s Nevada caucus vote continues to grow.

Obama campaign senior adviser David Axelrod did not back away from the remarks after they became public Sunday night, telling CNN the Clintons “have a good cop, bad cop thing going” in which “he comes with a negative message she stays positive.”

Axelrod accuses the former President of “doing slash and burn stuff,” and slams the Clinton campaign, saying “there’s a philosophy of saying and doing anything it takes.”

“It’s very clear that Bill Clinton is playing fast and loose with the facts,” says Axelrod, and unbecoming of a former president: “It’s been a little crass, as someone who supported him and respects him, I think it’s disappointing.”

5. And Hillary is running against both Obamas
and both Edwards', and Edwards is running against both Clintons and both Obamas.

All candidate spouses are campaigning. Elizabeth Edwards has done her share of the heavy-lifting, too.

It's unseemly to whine about it.

Picking a fight with Bill is a bad idea. He should focus on Hillary and pretend that Bill doesn't exist.

Meanwhile, Hillary is running against both Obamas.

If you can point me to a post where I indicated that Obama was not running against Bill, feel free.

A campaign isn't just about the candidates. It's about organization. Obama is running against Bill, Hillary, and everyone related to Hillary's campaign. That's obvious, since we've already seen issues arise with Bob Kerrey and others. He's also running against Edwards and Kucinich, their spouses, and their campaigns.

The same is also respectively true for Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, and Dennis Kucinich.

The trick is knowing what to pay attention to and what to ignore. At this point in the campaign, I think picking a fight with Bill is a waste of time. Bill won't be on the ballot.

All the IDIOT pundits thought this was a mistake for Obama, I think from what is being discussed all around now...this is a WINNER for Obama. The next few days are going to be interesting, after his appearance in Atlanta today where bigdog wasn't the center of attraction, watch for him to explode soon and that will cause the OLd Dem establishment like Kennedy et al, to turn on him fully and it will backfire on Billary!

It is wrong to keep attacking her or Bill Clinton this way and imply they are racist.

It is SAD.

I am SO fed up with the Clinton's crap. She needs to stand on her own.

We are going to sit by and watch our chance to fix this country destroyed by those who think they are going to exact revenge on the repubs for what they did to the clintons in the 90's. Its not going to work. If the clintons are our nominees, we will lose the whitehouse.

The Clintons are power mad. Bill comes across as a bloviating red-faced Little League parent screaming at the umpire to give his little girl a chance to win.

Bill has already soiled the American Presidency with his inability to control his zipper and now he just acts like a Type A Asshole. His Republican policies he signed away on are his REAL legacy. He wants the Goldwater Girl to pass on the next Republican policies while he perhaps gets to check out the new intern "talent". Anyone who knows assholes can see what he wants. He is a top class whiner and liar. Next thing you know, he'll blame it all on his drunk daddy while he bites his lip, wags his finger and tells us he feels our pain. Thanks NAFTA boy... I got your pain right here.

The Clintons have proven to play dirty, lie and distort effortlessly and continue to be a ball-and-chain on the Democratic Party.
