Obama: Hillary & Wal Mart - Bad! My Wife and Wal-Mart - Sweet!!
"Michelle Obama resigned her position as a director of Treehouse Foods today, ending the relationship with the Wal-Mart supplier that had threatened to become a problem for her husband, Barack Obama, in his bid for the Democratic nomination for president."

"Treehouse supplies pickles and other specialty foods to Wal-Mart, a frequent target of union leaders who say the company treats its workers unfairly."

"Michelle Obama cited increased demands on her time for resigning the position, which she had held since the summer of 2005."

http://www.punditreview.com/2007/05/24/barack-obama-just-another-politician/

Increased demands on her time? Like what, spending more time fielding question from union activists as to why she is taking money from a union hating company like Wal-Mart? Why was Treehouse acceptable in 2005 and not in 2007? If Wal-Mart is such an evil corporation, why was it ok take the position in the first place?

This is so transparent and bogus. They got caught with their hands in the Wal-Mart cookie jar and now they are backing away and trying to make things right, in appearance only, for the union activists in the Democrat party.

1. So now anyone who supplies Walmart is responsible for Walmart's awful labor practices?
Yeah, right.

What is wrong with you people? Your arguments are unfair and stretchy.

3. Yeah, they actually are
My father is in textiles, and Wal-Mart textile suppliers ruined the US textile system. It's also put alot of US businesses out of business OR those businesses have moved overseas to supply Wal-Mart.

So, the answer is "yes."

10. I have a family member who works for a company that supplies
product to Wal-Mart. Should she quit her job of 30+ years because of the Wal-Mart connection? How many people do you think should quit their jobs in protest of Wal-Mart's marketing practices. I would guess that there are many American companies who deal with Wal-Mart either directly or indirectly. You can carry this kind of thinking too far.

12. I don't think your relative should, and I don't think the OP meant it that way
I think he was saying that that isn't any different/better than Senator Clinton being on the Wal-Mart Board 15-20 years ago.

19. Although I would disagree that they are somehow the same.
Hillary being on Wal-Mart's board had direct influence on the reckless policies of the giant retailer. Suppliers do not. I watched one CNBC special on how Wal-Mart works and suppliers actually are hurt more by doing business with Wal-Mart because they use the amount of bulk they're able to buy for the ridiculous amount of stores they have to leverage companies that want to do business with them to tiny profit margins... which in turn forces those companies to have to outsource work. Those suppliers could choose to not work with Wal-Mart but would struggle to sell even a fraction of the products they do now.

Wal-Mart directly has that sort of influence, which is why being on Wal-Mart's board is worse because it directly influences the influence.

13. Does she trash other people for dealing with/being employed by Wal-Mart?
I bet she doesn't.
But to enjoy the income your wife recently made off Wal-Mart while attacking someone else for working for Wal-Mart many years ago isn't being intellectually honest.

16. exactly
but don't expect people to get the logic you're offering. Must have hurt to give up that $50,000 a year plus stock options, though.

Perhaps their good friend Tony can help them buy another house? After he gets out of jail, of course.
