Obama is wrong. IT'S ABOUT RICH VERSUS POOR.
That's the entire history of American politics and the dividing line between the parties.

What is Obama talking about? Why is he running as a Democrat?

2. I was for a while until I decided he didn't have the national security chops to compete with
the GOP candidate who will be talking national security constantly. Edwards rocks.

Lord knows they outnumber Hillary supporters 10 to one and inundate the forum with their posts. It's amusing to see one ... very ardent supporter of Hillary here.

6. Bill C. sort of ran on the same platform -- wanting to make ALL people rich
Rich get richer, poor get richer, everybody happy. Not about pitting groups against each other but about bringing everyone along.

20. And most politicians have followed suit -- no class warfare
I've been pissed for years that it's been considered "unseemly" to do it, but Obama isn't the only candidate who's been loathe for bring this up. If Bill Clinton had campaigned more strongly as a populist (the way John Edwards currently is), I probably would have been more supportive of him, but he struck me as a decidedly centrist go-along-to-get-along candidate, as was John Kerry, and Al Gore and Hillary Clinton and ...

10. It is verboten in DLC to ever sound populist and get caught
at it. Remember Al Gore. Bill Clinton could do it
and get away with it. Al From, Head DlC "We are
proud of both our candidates" Corporate Interests
cannot be made uncomfortable.

18. Oh for fuck's sake, murkie
That's so simplistic. I come from an, er, well to do family and my dad was as staunch a liberal democrat as you could find. I remember him repeatedly talking about how the most dangerous problem in American society was the gap between rich and poor- and that was 30 years ago. My parents were early and strong supporters of Jimmy Carter.

It is not about rich v poor. It's about making our society a more equitable one and providing opportunities for those who most need them.

23. I have to differ on this one. The working poor are too busy trying to survive day to day
Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 08:45 PM by The_Casual_Observer
to fight with anybody. Clean up hotel rooms all day or work in the fields & see how much fight you have left. The rich try their best not to even think about the poor, no fight there. The class divide is sharp, but where is the discontent? There isn't even a whisper of revolt in this country, unless I've missed it.

24. Well said...
I worked for a family of billionaire Democrats. Sure, they supported all the liberal candidates, but you wouldn't know it by the way they treated "the help". Class warfare all the way. And they expected me to use their "status and power" to get what they wanted... no thanks. I had to take a long, hot shower the last day I left their home office.
