Only Hillary Can Reunite Republican Party
By Jack Kelly

In a small indication of poor judgment, Sen. John McCain's operatives provided a link on his campaign Web site to the New York Times editorial endorsing Sen. McCain in the New York primary Feb. 5.

The endorsement got more attention than it otherwise would because MSNBC's Brian Williams, one of the moderators of the GOP debate in Florida last Thursday, threw it in the face of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. The editorial had consisted mostly of the editorial board explaining why they think Mr. Giuliani is an evil mean nasty rotten guy. Mr. Williams wanted to know: how does the mayor respond to such withering criticism from his home town paper?

Mr. Giuliani's eyes lit up like Babe Ruth's used to when he saw a hanging curve spinning in his wheelhouse. Rudy knew, as Brian Williams evidently did not, that for the vast majority of Republicans, to be endorsed by the New York Times is like being endorsed by Satan.

1. Obama Can Certainly Solidify the White Supremacist Vote
So don't think Hillary is the only Trojan horse in this race (to mix a veritable cocktail of metaphors!)

Our greatest threat is the Great White Father, the heir to Reagan: John McCain.

Bush's annointed heir, Mitt Romney, will be easy to defeat, but McCain will appeal to the easily led.

2. Did you read the article? It doesn't seem like it.
And by the way, I highly doubt white supremacists ever vote for Democrats, so I wouldn't worry about it.

6. I thought you had been reading Free Republic again...
lol. That's the word over there. They're praying for Hillary to be nominated.

Interesting that this sentiment is beginning to be more widely discussed.

Thanks.

8. Not merely Hillary; any woman would suffice
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 02:13 PM by Awsi Dooger
Hillary's detractors are kidding themselves if they think another woman would fare bettor vs. the GOP. The right wing base thrills to hate women.

I'm reminded of a line in a book I read a few years ago. I think it was David Brock's, "Blinded by the Right." He provided an anecdote after his piece, "The Real Anita Hill," was originally published in article form, I believe in American Spectator. The publisher of Spectator took Brock aside and proudly showed him covers of the most successful Spectator issues. The thing they had in common: Ripping women, or a specific woman. The publisher grinned and said to Brock, "Can't you find another woman to attack?"

Actually, if you're going to nominate a woman, Hillary is ideal. She's a national figure for 16 years, 100% name recognition and completely polarizing. Therefore almost every attack from the right will bounce with a laugh.

2008 has many conflicting and difficult to evaluate variables. For one thing, I guarantee if Obama is nominated you forfeit almost any chance at vital Florida. I think Obama supporters are missing that reality. Hillary definitely has a chance in Florida but the large Hispanic population, even the segment who generally prefers Democrats, is not going to vote for an African-American. A few posters from Florida who I respect on DU have already mentioned it.

I'm originally from Miami, and have been here the past 6 weeks. You can see the tension almost daily between blacks and Hispanics. My mom has been in a hospital, then a rehab center, for 5 weeks and I've heard many unfortunate comments from Hispanics regarding blacks, particularly in the heavily-Hispanic rehab facility. They apparently don't think I speak/understand enough Spanish, or don't care. When a black worker has left the room the Hispanics visiting the woman in the bed next to my mom have made some uncalled for comments, to the point my mom has wanted to respond, but I've quickly prevented her from doing so.
