Senator Clinton needs some coaching in regards to her oratory skills
I'm an Edwards supporter, and Obama is my second choice. I want to say that upfront. I have no hidden agenda.

I desperately want the Democratic candidate to win the general election, and it seems likely to me at this point that Senator Clinton will be the nominee, though I haven't given up on Obama, and I don't entirely discount the chances of an Edwards miracle.

Clinton, I'm convinced, is the odds-on favorite to be standard bearer come the general election. That's why I want her to sharpen her speaking skills.

It looks likely now that McCain will be the Republican nominee, and that's good, I guess, because he is the most boring public speaker in the lot, maybe in the world. But he also has a good dash of crossover appeal.

Senator Hillary Clinton's speaking style is a grating, strident monotone, and it literally makes my head hurt, and I want her to improve in this regard.

I still want Edwards, or Obama to get the nomination, but Clinton probably will. And if she does, I want her to kick Republican ass.

So, Senator Clinton, I beg you. Get a speaking coach. Get someone to teach you how to sound more inspirational. Please.

2. Actually I think she's GREAT with Q&A, interviews and debates.

I do think her basic BIG SPEECH making could do with some work though. A coach can help...but a big speech is political theatre. They all have their strengths. And weaknesses. Her strength isn't oratory. Obama is much better at it, and IMO he doesn't do as well in debates.

4. I feel like Hillary often largely avoids answering questions in debates
more so than Obama and Edwards. And imo, that's one of the worst things a debater can do.

8. Really. I dont see that at all. In fact she gets criticized for interrupting
to make sure she gets her point across.

5. I agree very much
Hillary is better in debates, Obama in speeches.

I think John Edwards is good at both! ;)

14. When she is talking to a crowd, her voice gets this edge to it, and
it is really nails on a chalkboard like.

In a one on one, her voice sounds better.

In any case, when she blathers on and on, she drives me crazy.

6. She's good in Q&As, not-so-good in debates, and grating in rallies
Edited on Wed Jan-30-08 04:51 AM by TheDonkey
The louder she tries to speak the more grating her voice becomes as she tries to shout to speak over people or make her point clear. It's harder for a woman to "yell" without sounding like they are yelling or at least for Hillary.

Obama is better at rallies but does not do well in debates imo.

12. Let's be realistic
No matter what she does, the media is going to beat the meme you suggest to death, as if we should elect a person based on the tone of their voice instead of based on their policy positions. But only if you are a democrat. If you're rethug the important thing will be that you sound "serious," which basically equates to having a male voice.

You'd do better to beg the media to focus on the policy issues instead of the tenor or tone of the candidate's voice.

16. Let me be realistic, too.
If every, "Let me be up front, I'm really an Edwards supporter" attack dog on this forum actually voted for Edwards, he's be leading the race!

15. She needs a coach on how to be human and
Obama needs to quit hanging around anti gay ministers and quit acting like he is the next moses...or another MLK.

18. She's awful on the stump, I agree. And I've thought that for a long time.
Edited on Wed Jan-30-08 03:56 PM by impeachdubya
I like Hillary- I've liked her for a long time- but she's particularly uninspiring when she delivers speeches. I didn't come up with that during the primary season, either- I remember hearing her onstage in 1992... at the March for Womens Lives in 2004... She just doesn't do a very good job giving speeches. As you say, it's this really grating monotone with weird pauses and forced-sounding emphasis.

"and I saAAY to yOU toDAY... that WeEEEE Have To BrING aaaaaaaaaMERICA fooORWARRRD!"

yay.

19. Yeah, she could channel MLK like Obama does....nah..he was a guy...
....gee, she needs to channel a woman.... or lower her voice about an octave so she sounds like a real man......
