Clinton leads in Tennessee: 43 % Clinton, 32 % Obama, 20/60 black, 50/22 white, 47/28 women woters
The poll may be mirroring the campaigns’ internal poll numbers, because Clinton made a campaign swing through Tennessee this week as well -- hitting Nashville on Saturday and Memphis on Sunday. The poll shows her ahead of fellow Democrat

Barack Obama by a margin of 43 percent to 32 percent. John Edwards, who also campaigned in Nashville on Monday, trailed with 16 percent.

Obama crushed Clinton in the first southern primary in South Carolina on Sunday. But pollster Dean Debnam said Tennessee is a much different political landscape.

“The primary electorate in Tennessee is only about 25% black,” Debnam, president of the polling firm, said in a statement. “Obama continues to perform well behind Clinton among white voters, and he’s going to have difficulty winning primaries in states without large African American populations if that continues.”

The poll showed Obama leading Clinton 60 percent to 20 percent among black voters in the poll, but trailing her by an equally large margin among -- 50 percent to 22 percent – among white voters. In addition, after struggling with the female vote in South Carolina, Clinton appears to be leading Obama 47 percent to 28 percent among women.

2. Finally a recent poll that favors Clinton
However, 9% were undecided and 16% were in the Edwards camp. That's still quite a large chunk of voters up for grabs.

4. TN (where I grew up) is a
not a good state for a black candidate to win. I have a hard time believing that eastern TN will EVER vote for a black man for president. Harold Ford Jr could not even get a senate seat there. He was VERY close but still did not win. Barack should have tried to visit Memphis or Nashville after Hillary. He *might* be able to get some of the votes from her there. My FIL (who is African American and lives in Memphis area) had planned to vote for Hillary because he did not believe Barack had a shot. He changed his mind within the last month. My mom is still in the middle. I'm not sure what she will do. I have been wondering if Harold Ford Jr would endorse but I guess not. I have heard that he is friends with Barack but he might stay neutral if he does not think Barack has a good chance.

5. I live in East TN & I totally agree.
It will be a very long time before a black candidate will have a chance here. It is very sad. The racism here is generational. Esp the older people don't even know why they are racists... it's just all they've known. I have never been able to figure out why because it's not like their is a huge black population here. We only had one person of color in my school the entire time I attended primary & high school. How can you hate what you don't know?

I am not even supporting Obama but I have done my best in beating back the "Obama is a muslim". Sadly even my sister bought into it.

I hope I live long enough to see the South truly change.

7. Is that why Hillary fled directly to TN after the big loss in SC?
Just wondering.
