I love John Edwards but I love a decent Supreme Court more.
As much as I hate it, I'm going to have to support the Democratic nominee in November and resist the urge to sit it out or write John in. I had my chance here in NH in the Primary, unlike many Edwards supporters whose Primaries are to come. I understand the desire to keep ringing the bell for John but, as I see it, the stakes are too high.

- I am well beyond my child bearing years and I suppose I could ignore the threat that Roe v. Wade could be overturned if the Repubs get to pick the next Justice(s) but I feel I owe it to every young woman in this country who values her private right to determine what she does with her own body to protect the Court from being overrun with lunatics.

- I'm up here in the woods and don't really think anyone is going to spy on me but I owe it to everyone else to insure that this country does not become a police state.

- I'm financially secure so I don't have to worry about where my next tank of heating oil is coming from but I know a lot of people who do and I need to take a stand against the 21st Century Robber Barons who are squeezing the life out of the poor and the middle/working class.

- I have a son who is a writer and, thus far, has been free to write exactly what he thinks. I have an obligation to him to put my personal feelings aside, my hurt and my disappointment, and vote the Democratic ticket in November because, otherwise, his words and his voice might disappear. I may hold my nose while I do it, but I'll do it because there really is no viable alternative.

3. You know, that's my bottom line too. But..
after watching this mornings "Gonzalez Redux" with the nominee who the Dems wholeheartedly supported, I have to be skeptical about their judgement (Shumer, Biden, I'm looking at you) when it comes to picking judges.

Know what I mean?

4. Everytime I am turned off
by either candidate or any of their supports I close my eyes and chant SCOTUS SCOTUS SCOTUS.

I'll never have my perfect candidate. I won't in 2008. But I will not stay home out of some "principle" and let a Republican slide into the WH and pick the next 2-3 SCOTUS justices. No way.

5. the democratic candidate will lose.
you might as well stand up for something in the process.

any justice appointed by the H or the O will have a corporate seal on his forehead

so what is the difference?

9. I just used the Supreme Court to convince someone to vote 4 Dem Nom
I was listening to two women talking on the subway. One said she thought she'd vote for McCain over Clinton because she doesn't like her as a person. I asked her if she would vote for Obama over McCain, she said yes, but that she thought Clinton would get the nom. I said, well, I hope Obama gets it so you don't vote for McCain.

She said, but McCain and Clinton are identical on Iraq. I had to get off the train, so I quickly said, Supreme Court.

And she said, yes, thank you for pointing that out to me.
