The 5 Stages of the Loss of Your Democratic Candidate
Edited on Fri Mar-05-04 07:55 PM by Paragon
With apologies to Dr. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross...

1. Denial
2. Anger
3. Bargaining
4. Depression
5. Acceptance

Please keep in mind that said stages may or may not manifest themselves in this order.

Be well. :)

1. Been there, done that.
Note: Verbal abuse from others does NOT help in going through the stages....

2. I believe that certain Fr***erSpewers have done this one to death already.
Even created a fictional post as his example, if I recall. Wow, sounds like a BCE move, create a false pretext, then base a war on it :eyes:

3. I am no freeper, sir.
Merely trying to help those on this board who are still clinging too tightly to a dead/dying campaign.

6. I can vouch for you as having been one that moved through those stages
and is simply trying to point it out for those moving through them and those that need to give them the space to do it.

13. I wasn't implying that YOU were, sir.
I was merely stating that the subject matter had been covered, by someone whose motives and actions were uh... suspect, to put it mildly, and that the reactions to that would be likely to bleed over into this discussion.

For the record though, it's rather erroneous and perhaps even a bit patronizing to assume that supporters of other candidates are "in denial" simply because they aren't willing to join the flock before the convention. In my own case, I truly believe Kerry was the worst possible candidate against Bush, and it would be hypocritical of me to pretend that's not the case now, just because Al From, Will Marshall, Terry McAullife, and Rupert Murdoch say so.

That doesn't mean I won't vote for him in November. It also doesn't mean that I WILL. What it means is that he's going to have to earn my support. And there's not an ounce of denial in that.

21. I'm somewhere between 4 and 5
with 4 still being fairly dominant. I guess it's a good thing that I still have lots of time to work myself into being enthusiastic about John Kerry. I will get there eventually, but it may take awhile.

15. A lot of us have reached beyond your Stage 5. We just don't say it.
We are involved in further projects, and especially in local campaigns. I just don't feel as though I need to tell everyone what I will do. I will, though, and people still won't be satisfied.

It is my belief, and that of my husband, that we will vote for the nominee in November.

However, our financial support has been and will continue going to various candidates on a local and national level. Our activism will be devoted to them as well. Before anyone jumps in and bashes me........let me say that getting new progressives in office is vital to Mr. Kerry's presidency.

We are able to give financial support, and I think those who can should do so. However, the subject of whom to donate to is a personal matter, and we have made our choice.

We will also be contributing both activism and financial support to Howard Dean's new DFA group. It basically is working to get candidates in office who share our values.

16. What to do to people in the five stages of grief:
1. Denial. Bash them on the head, then they can't deny the pain.

2. Anger. Ridicule them. It brings their anger to the fore.

3. Bargaining. Offer them a bargain, go along with you or else.

4. Depression. Taunt them for being weak and compare them to yourself, the ideal macho man.

5. Acceptance. Kick them in the kidneys so that they know they are accepted into the club of the "always-correct." This is their initiation.

6. Ignore them except for votes and money. Then they will know they really fit in.

This has been brought to you for the purpose of education. Those of you who have been through this don't need this education. The tormentors DO.

19. This is a political discussion board
not a 12-step group.

We are NOT all here to hug each other. We're here to discuss one of the most volatile subjects there is: politics.

20. Paragon: did you hear me?
You do not have to adopt my suggestions. Maybe a little kindness and consideration would help.
