Wall to wall people!
Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 10:08 PM by mzmolly
I live in a suburb of Saint Paul, Minnesota. I knew when I could not find parking at the local High School that we had a crowd, but I had no idea that the school would be filled! I am not exaggerating when I say that I felt like I was in line at a rock concert. I was literally mashed between people trying to find their destination. My poor nine year old was smashed along for the ride.

At one point we were standing behind an elderly gent who stated "I've been coming to these every two years since 1967, I've never seen it like this." Another elderly woman said that this was her first caucus but she felt compelled because "I want to be part of history."

It was lovely. :hi:

I failed to note that we ran out of ballots as well! I voted on a ballot I made myself after being handed a sheet of paper.

How was the turnout in your area?

1. Wow, that's wonderful!
I'm not in a ST state, but I'd love to hear other turnout reports. Great news for Dems!

2. Damn, you people up in Saint Paul are doin' it right!
Way to go!

Also, some damned excellent parenting taking your young person to vote with you.

That's how it should be done.

Loud cheers from my house, mzmolly!

9. You guys are going to kill me but ...
I voted for Edwards. He was still on the ballot, and I wanted to endorse his platform and say thanks for speaking about poverty and the fact that there are two Americas.

I will say that I was impressed with the responses I got in my "torn" thread. I just want JE to have a say in the agenda if possible. I trust him with my vote.

6. Minnesota here, too. It was spectacular.
I live in south Minneapolis, in a precinct that went heavily for Kucinich in '04. I went early, at 6:30, and there was already a long line, and most of them were people who were signing in as new caucus-goers. I couldn't stay all evening for the other proceedings, so I waited in line for about a half hour and voted, and by the time I left at about 7:00 there was a line snaking out the door and halfway down the block. They were already making ballots out of cut-up squares of scratch paper; they said the turnout was at least three times what they expected. And that was *before* the huge crowd started showing up. I don't know who will win and I'm not sure I even care right now because it was so good to see such a huge turnout for the Democrats.

This was before 7PM. Glad as well that you had a good turnout Ocelot. :hi: I'll be happy for who ever wins and sad for who loses. I feel we have two great candidates.

23. I'm Summit Hill-ish
Rent, but don't own of course! I can't afford to own in this neighborhood!

I'm kind of sorry I missed it. This is my first presidential caucus in my new 'hood (lived in Mpls for 12+ years before moving here in 2005).

The TV news stations are going totally apeshit over the numbers. And I can't BELIEVE the ###s Obama got-- 65%!

I also can't believe that Romney is leading-- and McCain might even be in 3rd! If McCain doesn't get at least 2nd, Pawlenty is OFF HIS LIST for VP.

Loved your caucus story! :hi:

Ahhh, Summit Hill. I can't figure out WHO can afford to live there sans Garrison Keillor!? :P

I must turn on the tele and find out what's happening. My Mom had to fill me in on what you just did as my back side has been planted here since I came home LOL. :hi:

22. great turnout
Hey mzmolly!
Turnout was amazing here in my neck of the woods of St. Paul. Just before 7:00 there was a line a good block and a half long of people waiting just to get in the building to get to their caucus rooms to vote and many, many people still driving around looking for parking. It was great, and I'm so glad it wasn't a -20 degree night!

So nice to see you here! :hi: I'm glad to learn that the turnout in Saint Paul was good as well. Agreed, the weather being mild was helpful.

FYI - My sister, also in Saint Paul - the East side, said that her caucus location was packed as well.
