Who here would - could? - look Senator Obama in the eye, and say, "You are three-fifths of a man," without fearing a lightning strike straight from the hurling hand of the Shemighty?
Not I.
Initially, our Constitution did not live up to that More Perfect Union. But it provided a self-healing mechanism.
The

As you can see, Martha Washington counted as 1.0.
Every single one of her slaves counted as 0.6.

In 2007, on videotape, and knowing the camera was trained on her every word and her every expression, Senator Clinton spoke to me, piercing my heart and severing the bond. Of the fight for gay marriage equality, she said, by way of explanation - and it's on the video - "

It would have been breathtakingly stupid from a GOP candidate.
It was many times so coming from a Democratic one.
But, it has provided me with a rational, objective, scientific model upon which to process the wounded feelings she inflicted with her own "newly-found voice," a mathematical framework upon which I can solidly nail my vote next Tuesday, and explain - defying anyone to best the force of her own logic, defying anyone to dare tag me as a "misogynist," or as the one who's upside down on marital relations or gender issues, instead of she who dealt the wound herself - why I will vote for Obama instead.
Thank you, Senator Clinton, for the algorithm you provided.
The first Census in which former slaves counted as a full 1.0 was the

By his stamina, his stances, his inspirational refusal to self-segregate at a "my identity group only" college (cf. Wellesley), and by his repeated, proven ability to forge forward with firsts under his own head of steam (e.g. Harvard Law Review) ...
... by his indefatigable energy - much more than that of one ordinary man ...
... I will - with tears streaming down my face, no doubt, at the magic moment of hitting "Yes," (public policy and politics is close to the quick for me, and I won't be crying fake Crocodile Tears for cameras rolling, either, but rather with curtain pulled and in private) ...
... proudly cast a vote that in my book will count for One-and-Two-Thirds, even if the Commonwealth containing the Capital of the Old Confederacy only registers it as 1.Obama.
... For a man whose own struggle to achieve the American Dream took One-and-Two-Thirds the effort, and which was roughly One-and-Two-Thirds as long-term of a struggle as the other candidate's.*
Barak. Obama.
Yes. I. Will.

* And who somehow has been the One-and-Two-Thirds of a Man necessary to be such a good father and loving husband, even while campaigning. Yes. I. Will.
P.S. Real men do cry.
