Reason Edwards-Obama meeting cancelled has been released.
The media was the reason. It's being talked about on MSNBC right now. The media was massing so heavily in Chapel Hill, NC, and privacy for the meeting was wanted so it's being rescheduled. Makes sense.

1. Then why did an Obama staffer say, "You'll have to ask Edwards about why."

3. Probably because within hours of the cancellation, the staffer hadn't yet gotten word.
It's not that difficult to understand.

8. Why refer it to Edwards, though?

It could be a bluff to postpone the news until after the Pontomac Primary.

We'll see. He'll endorse soon.

2. That's what I thought
The meeting with Hillary on Thursday WAS private; the media only found out about it afterwards. They may even hold it elsewhere.

6. Yeah, they said hundreds of media persons had converged on Chapel Hill.
What a mess. I was there for about 8 months last year and saw how the media can swarm that town. It's a very small town mostly centered around UNC. My guess is the media swarmed both Edwards' property and UNC-CH where the poverty center is.

4. and my theory from last night....
Why It Was Smart For Obama To Postpone His Edwards Meeting

The Clinton campaign is about to lose 3 more states tomorrow and they NEED Edwards' endorsement to stave off the bad news coming tomorrow night. An Edwards endorsement of Clinton would have done that. By postponing his meeting with Edwards Obama has played it perfectly because JE will wait to see what the Obama campaign is going to promise him before making any decision. Edwards WILL endorse Clinton-mark it down DUers because he will be offered the moon and stars. The bad news though is the fact that it won't really make any significant difference anyway-John Edwards is a fading star on the horizon-he waited a week too long.

7. Why this shows Obama will be endorsed by Edwards...
I believe it was the media. Coming in the hundreds isn't exactly a welcome sight for a private meeting.

Further, they keep it in the news longer.

Further yet, it makes it look like Obama didn't pre-determine his support and is considering Hillary so when he endorses Obama, it has greater impact and greater media attention.

Further again, it makes no sense to announce an endorsement for Obama right before 3 Obama-friendly states today. It makes more sense to wait until before Texas and Ohio. If he were endorsing Clinton, he would have done it already and potentially give her a significant boost in Virginia which would at the very least earn her a couple extra delegates if not a win.

5. Breaking!! Obama not getting the Edwards endorsement!! Reason:
All that media attention would've have seen Obama all frowny and pouty leaving the Edwards compound empty handed. If Edwards *was* going to endorse Obama, he would've welcomed the attention.

15. we'll see who is all "frowny and pouty "
after today results from today's contests come in around 8-9 tonight...I wonder if Mrs. Clinton will turn on the waterworks again because she "cares so deeply" about the fate of our democracy or will it be because she's getting her clock cleaned by Barack Obama

9. If Edwards was going to endorse Clinton he should have done it already
It's too late to enable her to salvage some dignity from today's anticipated results. I tend to think that Obama pulled the plug on the meeting so that a possible Edwards endorsement of Clinton did not occur before the Potomac primaries.

As time goes by, any endorsement by Edwards will carry decreased weight. People have very short attention spans and by the time of the next big round of primaries a lot of them will have forgotten who the hell Edwards was. And it won't make any diference who he endorses.

11. I don't care who he endorses
I planned on voting for him.

I will not be voting for who he endorses just because he endorsed them. What a freaking circus.

I hope he endorses none of the above.

12. Who tipped off the media? Like Paris Hilton who alerts the papparazzi
everytime she goes shopping, Obama most likely called them to get all the attention.

Edwards and Obama could have a secret meeting anywhere and anytime, should they desire it.
