1. Could she be dropping out?
Edited on Tue Feb-12-08 08:16 PM by CreekDog
Tonight's results probably make her behind by about 150-160 pledged delegates.

To catch up on these, she needs an average of over 60% in ALL future contests or if she just competes in TX OH and PA, she'll need well over 70%. If Obama needed that it would be a longshot, for her, being so far behind and apparently low on funds, not competing in Wisconsin, beyond a longshot, a hail Mary when two touchdowns are needed...that said, what else is left for her?

If she gets in through superdelegates and MI and FL, half the party is going to hate her.

She is out of good options.

2. It would be in the best interest of the party if she did that. Not to mention her own......
political career.

18. It would be in the best interests of Obama, but certainly not the party
If he wins the nomination we lose in Nov.

21. I think that dropping out would be the best thing for Clinton politically
I think by now, we're looking at two options: a bitterly fought brokered convention, or a narrow Obama victory before the convention. Hillary Clinton has always struck me as tremendously fuckin' smart, and I'm starting to think that she knows that this is a no win situation for her. What to do?

A concession now would set Clinton up as a healer for the party, and put us in the best position possible for November. Sure, she doesn't win the presidency, but she gains a whole goddamn truckload of political goodwill. What will she do with it? I think this sets her up as Senate Majority Leader. By dropping out now, she sets Democrats up for a huge Democratic gain in the House and Senate. We won't need a conservative Dem as leader of the Senate any longer. Not to denigrate Reid - he's done a good job with the cards he's been dealt - but think of what we can accomplish with Clinton as Majority Leader. She's smart as a whip, she's a proven leader, and she can rally support in a way that Reid simply can't. Yeah, it's be a second place - but it'd be a sweet second place. (Just imagine having women as leaders of both chambers of Congress!)

This is an ideal situation for her at this moment, an ideal situation for the party, and an ideal situation for the country.

4. Is the timing another screwup by her campaign managers?
Did this get announced before the word got out about the extended voting hours in Maryland?

16. She is going to say that she knew she would lose and that it is not a surpise.
She will say that she is going to destroy Obama in Texas, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

and the media is showing it. They have been showing clips or portions of all the candidates speaking. I doubt she is "conceding". Oy vay. What a bunch of vultures coming in for the kill before it is dead.
