Why is Edwards still holding back on endorsing HRC or Obama?
Edwards and Obama claim their meeting was cancelled because the press had staked out Edwards' house and they'd prefer
to meet at an unannounced time. What a lame excuse! What difference does that make, anyway?

Does anyone have any thoughts on what Edwards is holding out for? It does seem to me that both Hillary and Barack have more
lines in their stump speeches now that sound like they came directly from Edwards but... what is he waiting for?

1. Looking for the best deal and both are telling him to shove it.

2. Maybe he likes (or dislikes) them both equally
and would rather not endorse either one. Who have all the other ex-candidates endorsed? Why isn't anybody asking that question? The only one I recall offhand is Dennis Kucinich at the Iowa caucus, if I remember right, and only specific to that caucus.

4. Do you think there's a chance that he would endorse Hillary, instead?

5. Sure, it's possible. Just not likely, for the following reasons:
1) Politicians like to be on the winning side
2) Obama is seen more as an agent of change than Clinton (as Edwards himself has said publicly).

6. Now that the Edwards family
is off the campaign trail, maybe they'd like some normalcy, away from the media for a little while.

I think if he's endorsing Clinton, it will be tomorrow afternoon. If he endorses Obama, it will be Thursday if his campaign has doubts about the WI primary, otherwise it will be around the 21st.
Then again, maybe he will just sit on the sideline.

7. Maybe he's a true pluralist and wants to let it run its course.
Maybe he's not a total solipsist and wants them to have their own days in the sun. Maybe he can't make up his mind. Maybe he thinks it's going just fine without him. Maybe he's just being polite. Maybe he's just being gentlemanly.

I think it's best that he stays quiet. Regardless, he'll be tarred by his deriders if he says anything.

13. Not so much about your post, more about the replies.
As far as why John has not yet endorsed, it's been asked a hundred times here at least. My head shaking was based more on naivety of most of the responses to your rather pedestrian OP.

14. Not all people are on DU everyday, so sometimes questions are posted after the daily DUers
have discussed the subject in every aspect.

That shouldn't preclude people who 'arrive late' from discussing what's on their minds, though.

11. I think Edwards was going to endorse Hillary, but has not done so
because she's losing steam quickly and he doesn't want to be linked to a "losing" campaign.

16. He's waiting until it's totally irrelevant?
Sorry if that comes off rather snarky. I was a big Edwards supporter but this endorsement game is getting tiresome. Make up your mind, John, one way or another.

20. Most superdelegates are waiting...
because they want to see who the states are going to nominate, and then vote along with that.

The only reason Edwards would endorse earlier is to negotiate some sort of cabinet position, and that's why he's meeting with both candidates. So I'd expect an endorsemen fairly soon.

He could have picked already. With big names they schedule an official endorsement speech to maximize the impact.
