3. Who the hell is this lispy little fucker?
I remember this type of guy from the College Democrats - dudes that were planning their inevitable run for, like, the Idaho House of Delegates at age 19.

12. Lighten up there
You seem to be pretty quick to throw around disgusting verbiage about somebody you really don't know anything about. Jason Rae is conscientious and works very hard to fulfill his responsibilities as a DNC member. He comes to all the local Democratic Party meetings with ordinary folk like us and is always accessible to answer our questions and talk politics. He's a nice, down-to-earth guy. It's one thing to disagree that DNC members have superdelegate status, but lay off the personal garbage.

13. I erased "fruity" from my original description
I should get credit for that.

By the way, I'm drunk again.

16. Well, okay then
Seriously, though, everybody around here is on a razor-thin edge right now, but Jason is a nice young man and doesn't deserve that kind of language.

17. Neither do I
The next President will have much more of an effect on Jason's and his peers' future than on mine. I assume they will be around a lot longer than I will.

4. After 2004, we made a 50 state strategy a DNC goal...
...after 2008, we should make getting rid of the superdelegate system a DNC goal.

5. He "interfaces" with candidates and lunches with Chelsea
How can you possibly think he's not 13,000 times the voter you and I are?

6. I kinda feel bad for him
He's being made to be some kind of scapegoat when the problem is with the system as a whole.

8. Are you a delegate? Don't blame the kid for taking the initiative
to run for the spot as a DNC member. How many others on DU even bother to run as a regular delegate?

9. I don't want to be a delegate, but a delegate is given a mandate
I could care less if he was a run of the mill delegate.

15. He wasn't given a mandate. The pledged delegates are given a mandate
and cannot vote contrary to that unless the person they pledged their vote releases them. Unpledged or SD can switch any time they want.

And he wasn't elected by the voters. He was elected by state convention delegates in 2004.

11. You have to admit there is some hypocrisy involved
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 12:02 AM by djohnson
If I were not busy taking care of my family, I could spend more time running to be a delegate. But I trust that we have a Democratic government with equal opportunities to affect it. For someone to garner more than their share of votes seems intrinsically un-Democratic.

14. He wasn't elected in an election at the polls. He attended the state convention
and was elected by fellow state delegates.

18. Oh, man.
Do you know how many people out there who are involved in the Democratic process who have families?

Like it or not, this primary is a PARTY process -- it's different from the general election process -- and some people have, in fact, given a LOT to their party.

I have a neighbor who is running for state senate. She has two small children and she and her husband both work. :wow:
