Could (would) Bush pull an LBJ?
If his approval rating continues its free fall, or even just plateaus and doesn't recover, and if large amounts of fecal material continues to hit mechanical cooling devices, could Bush make the uncharacteristically noble decision not to take the Republican party down with him, and withdraw as a candidate for re-election? And what would the Republicans do in that case? (They certainly wouldn't have the 1968 Democratic option of running the vice president instead, with Cheney liked by almost no one.)

1. Not on your life.
He's far too arrogant to ever admit that he's been wrong about anything. He obviously doesn't give a hoot about any damage he's done anywhere.

3. No
They have to win, or they go to jail.

When Kerry has a plane crash in October, it will all work out.

5. I agree with all of the previous posters, except for
their conclusion.

It's not inconceivable to me that PNAC would use Bu$h as a scapegoat. It's not like he's making the decisions there anyway.

It would be hard for them to pull it off, since they've built their political cache on hiding their more cunning and evil faces like Cheney and Rumsfeld behind the dumb "regular guy" Dubya (not that I think he's a regular guy, I'm just talking about the propaganda).

But if it means their only chance of survival, however slim, they'll go for it.

That is, if they don't think that other options are more likely to preserve them -- BBV election theft, another LIHOP, another war, etc.

9. Bush I's Numbers Were Worse Than W's at this point
They rose before the election, but not enough to overcome both Clinton and Perot. W has some things up his sleeve -- we'll just have to see if they're effective. That's why the credibility issue is so important -- if no one believes Bush, nothing he can say will improve his numbers.

11. Junior would never resign, because as ludicrous as this sounds...
...he probably really believes he's doing a good job. There's a reason the PNAC'ers keep protesters 2 miles away from him when he's on the road, make sure he's no where near DC when protests are in town and completely dependent on "filtered" news, coming only from them.

These bastards are telling the idiot puppet boy that he's doing a great job and that Americans love him. And if he's shielded from ever knowing otherwise, he certainly couldn't ever do the noble thing and fall on the sword.

Besides, that would require a conscience, and it's apparent that nobody in the Bush family owns one of those.

12. No way!
This is April! There's no way the Pubs would change captains now, there's not enough time before November.

I think they'll keep trying all their nasty tricks had hope one works!

15. Bush will pull an LBJ, not a 1968 LBJ, a 1965 LBJ
With Iraq going to hell in a handbasket, I think there will be a massive influx of other families troops sent, just to show America what a tough guy he is fighting terrorism. With a $200 million campaign warchest, there's no way he's pulling out of either the election or Iraq.

16. I wouldn't be surprised
and I imagine he would be taken down by his own inside guys, my fear is that it would be a McCain/Delay or Moore ticket.
