SCARY THOUGHT: 12 Years of Bush...

I was talking to a rep of mine today (I work in flooring) who's pretty anti-Bush. He brought up an interesting point which made my stomach SINK for just a second, and I'm wondering if anyone can contradict this. He claims, that since Bush was actually appointed and NOT elected, that he could conceivably be ELECTED 2 more times (the constitution only says that you can't be ELECTED to the office of President more than twice... says nothing about serving more than twice). Granted, we're kicking his ass out in November regardless. But is this theoretically possible? I wince.

Bush was elected by the Electoral College. As you know there is no actual direct voting for President. So while Gore got a majority of the popular vote, Bush got a majority of the Electoral vote, which is really all that counts.

3. Possibly, it's all in the definition of what "is" is, I mean what...

"elected" means. I put nothing past them, including declaration of a "state of emergency" after another "terrorist" attack and amendment so that he can run the government indefinitely, under the guise of "can't change the government during such a trying time."

The 'pubs have maintained that he was elected and, speaking in a STRICTLY legal manner, he was when the Electoral College met in January 2001 and elected him. So, no three terms.

Besides, we'd be involved in a full nuclear exchange with France, Germany, Russia, or China before a third term would come up.

6. Doesn't matter

He gets 2 terms. If he's appointed (as was Ford when Nixon resigned), he gets to serve the remainder of that term, if it's over 2 years, plus another term. If it's less than 2 years, he can run for 2 additional terms. This lying sack of crap will have to be out in 2008 at the latest, unless he goes ahead and declares himself the supreme little emperor under martial law.
