Why I need to feign Passion for Kerry
Is it his voice? His droning forensic style?

I keep waiting, optimistically, for the second-act to begin, the momentum building portion of the campaign when support, interest, passion, and intensity should be increasing.

The other night I watched the DNC annual dinner where Carter, Gore, Clinton, and I think Edwards talked. I thought the best by far was Clinton. His speech was the highlight of the night for me.

But the wind in the sails of the night seemed to subside when Kerry took the stage and began speaking.

I hope someone on the campaign is advising, coaching, or somehow getting across to Kerry that not everyone has the will power to temporarily feign passion for him like me.

I want * out of the WH,and I think Kerry will make a good president.

But I think he needs to improve his ability to drive passion - especially in the mid-American main street, where Mel Gibson rules.

2. Screw the "passion"....

...just vote for him. It's like marriage. After a while you have to make your own passion, I guess.

4. If you think he's going to get the Mel Gibson vote
You're only kidding yourself. Those people are theocrats and have no chance of being wooed by us.

5. You don't have to go to bed with him
OTOH his DNC dinner was not so hot . . .too long.

BUT OTyet_anotherH in person he is charismatic, at least in my experience. Others have said it too - I noticed a number of people in those MSNBC primary focus groups said it.

He is better when he is away from a podium and I think they are starting to capitalizing on that.

Thinking about a return to dem party values might put a little love in your heart - focus on that I guess.

6. Oh, yes, yes, yes!
Away from the podium, he's charming, likeable, and comfortable, with a winning personna. Imo, he should greet, thank, short-message, and then take questions, focusing mainly, but not exclusively, on the questioner. The public has got to get to know this good man!

7. Principles over personality
It's his ideas and his belief in his ideas that I like, his principles. I could care less about his personality, although I'm ready for some humble intelligence over Bush's swaggering idiocy.

GLORY be: how can ANY man have such uppers on their shoes ? ...

And that isnt even talking about the heels ....

The heels piss me off more than anything ....

9. I know what you mean.
I didn't vote for Gore because of his earthtone clothes. That was awful. Voted for Nader instead because of his cool classy clothes and because I expected him to not only talk about but also bring us real change.

11. Yeah, that Nader's a real clotheshorse
But the starter of this thread raises valid concerns-- Kerry does not connect with the types of voters we need to attract in order to win.

Kerry really should do more of the Q&A-- if he's strong at it, THAT's the best way to convince voters. Dennis Kucinich is extremely good at that format, and when he was allowed to do it, he did quite well-- and also got a lot of votes, too, despite being ignored by most of the media.

If Kerry can reach out to "regular folk" and connect his platform with their issues, he'll clean up in November. Flaccid stump speeches won't do it. He needs to show compassion and knowledge to the unwashed masses-- look what it did for Bill "I feel your pain" Clinton.

12. I've not feigned passion
once in my life. Don't know how, don't want to learn how.

Which says a lot since I am a very passionate person.

13. I think he's a great speaker
Which is probably why I supported him way before Iowa. I get a huge smile on my face everytime he talks about how he plans to change all of the horrible things that Chimp has done to our country.
