Hillary's campaign to belittle Obama, and why Ferraro should be fired!
Edited on Mon Mar-10-08 07:47 PM by ProSense
From Hillary's site:

Sen. Obama Offers 5th Explanation of NAFTA-Gate

After days of misleading denials, Sen. Obama has finally acknowledged that a meeting took place between his senior economic advisor and Canadian officials regarding NAFTA. But Sen. Obama now claims that the detailed memo obtained by the AP describing the meeting - and Goolsbee's downplaying of Obama's anti-NAFTA rhetoric - is inaccurate. This is at least the fifth different explanation offered by Sen. Obama and his campaign.

Still pushing NAFTA lies and hypocrisy.

Still trying to belittle Obama:

Clinton's Loony Veepstakes Logic

<...>

Well, Obama isn't flattered--and rightfully so. Stumping this morning in Columbus, Mississippi ahead of tomorrow's Magnolia State primary, Obama told a raucous, applauding crowd that he's bewildered by Clinton's second-fiddle suggestion. "With all due respect, I have won twice as many states as Senator Clinton," he said. "I have won more of the popular vote than Senator Clinton. I have more delegates than Senator Clinton. So I don't know how someone in second place is offering the vice presidency to the person in first place." Then Obama twisted the knife a little further, mocking the Clintonites' constant reminders that he's unqualified to be commander-in-chief. “I don’t understand," he said. "If I am not ready, how is it that you think I would be such a great vice president? You can’t say he is not ready on day one, then you want him to be your vice president. I just want everybody to absolutely clear: I am not running for vice president. I am running to be president of the United States of America."

<...>

The more Obama mentions Clinton's silly gambit, the less likely it is to work. So expect him to keep mentioning it. That said, I still think an Obama-Clinton ticket is a possibility, especially if the Democratic contest continues until the convention. "Reluctant to overturn the will of the people, the superdelegates would pick Obama for prez," I wrote last week. "Unwilling to ignore Clinton's strength and supporters, they would insist that he select her as his running mate in return." If the job at all interests her (and it'd be hard to say no at this point), she might want to quit the hoodwinking while she's ahead--or, you know, behind.

UPDATE, 6:33 p.m.: A source points me in the direction of today's Michael Goodwin column from the New York Daily News. The key quote:

The offer of a joint ticket looks like an olive branch, but it's really a knife aimed at cutting Obama down to size. In the words of one Clintonista, "It's a way of belittling him" by suggesting he's not ready to be President and would lose the general election as nominee to John McCain.

Ferraro belittles Obama, implying that he's an affirmative action candidate:

Ferraro: Obama is lucky he's black

More classiness, from one of Clinton's top surrogates, Geraldine Ferraro.

If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.

Ferraro isn't some unknown lower-level or obscure advisor, but one of her top fundraisers, member of Clinton's finance committee, and a former Democratic vice presidential nominee.

Hillary's spokesperson called Obama something worse than a monster:

Clinton aide compares Obama to Ken Starr

Still more hypocrisy:

Clinton Campaign: Fire Samantha Power

Hillary needs to fire Ferraro!

Still race baiting.

3. Want spam:
go find a Rezko hyperventilation thread or one of those whiny BS "Amen" threads.

If you have nothing to add to a discussion here, but a moronic comment, that would be best.

5. Geraldine Ferraro
I'm surprised at her. This from somebody who felt the sting of being called a "bitch" by Barbara Bush (I will refrain).

Another disappointment.

9. Wolfson doesn't agree with Ferraro

Disagreeing with Ferraro

Between the Spitzer story, Geraldine Ferraro's own pioneering status, and the dog-bites-man character of offense-and-apology stories these days, her reported comment that Obama wouldn't be where he is if he were white didn't get all that much attention today.

I asked the Clinton campaign for a reaction, though.

"We disagree with her," said spokesman Howard Wolfson.

Good! Hillary should fire both of them, him for his Ken Starr comment.

14. So they should dump her
the same way that Obama had to dump one of his surrogates last week. I see no difference. In fact, Obama should DEMAND that she be fired immediately.

Obama Aide Calls Ferraro Remarks “Far Worse” Than Power Comments

Foreign policy adviser Susan Rice on MSNBC says the Clinton supporter’s recent comments about Obama’s race are “outrageous and offensive.”

“I think if Sen. Clinton is serious about putting an end to statements that have racial implications… Then she ought to repudiate this comment.”

13. HILLARY'S JABBERWOCKY

HILLARY'S JABBERWOCKY.

Here's a challenge for TAPPED readers: Determining which of the Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign claims thus far is the most internally inconsistent. Only in Hillaryland can the following assertions be made with a straight face, but I'm having trouble figuring out which is the most absurdly illogical. So I've decided to put them to you for a vote:

  1. Hillary is ready to "lead on Day 1" the entire federal bureaucracy for the next four or eight years, yet the presidential campaign she heads lacked the foresight to develop a field plan or strategy for the states on the calendar beyond the February 5 "Super Tuesday" primary.

  2. Hillary is the person capable of making a quick, crucial decision when the phone rings in the middle of the night even though personal loyalty and stubbornness prevented her from making--while wide awake for weeks if not months--the tough decision to fire and replace her disruptive, ineffective campaign manager.

  3. Hillary has met the "commander-in-chief threshold" even though, when the time came to cast the single most important vote of her career—in Year 29 of her self-styled 35-year career in public service—she didn't take the time to read the National Intelligence Estimate before voting to give President Bush the authority to go to Iraq.

  4. Although both she and her husband have stated that the most important qualification for selecting a vice presidential running mate is choosing somebody with the capacity to step in immediately to become president, Hillary believes Barack Obama has not meet that commander-in-chief threshold and yet she would consider him for the vice presidential running-mate slot anyway.

  5. Ignoring what might be called the "transitive property of political toughness," Hillary claims only she is tough enough and skilled enough—either in the general election or once in the White House—to battle with the nasty and cutthroat Republicans, yet if Obama proves he's tough enough to defeat her, and she is tougher than the Republicans, he is still somehow not tough enough to deal with the Republicans.

  6. Hillary promises she will be able to control the political impulses and personal meddling of her husband and former president, Bill Clinton, if they return together to the White House, and yet after but a single loss in the Iowa caucuses, President Clinton emerged from the shadows and issued a series of comments that offended his and his wife's longtime and most loyal African American supporters, forcing him to later admit he had crossed the line from appropriately "supporting her" into in appropriately "defending her."
Vote below with your comments, and feel free to either add your own claims of inconsistency to the half-dozen offered above, or provide examples of internally inconsistent arguments or criticisms Obama or his campaign are making.
