CNN: Obama R E J E C T S being Clintons V.P.
Edited on Mon Mar-10-08 10:05 PM by RoadRage
(CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama Monday flatly rejected suggestions he would be a vice presidential running mate for Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Sen. Barack Obama speaks to supporters during a rally in Columbus, Mississippi, Monday.

Clinton, Obama's rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, and her husband, former President Clinton, have suggested a joint Clinton-Obama ticket -- with Obama in the second slot.

President Clinton Saturday suggested a Clinton-Obama ticket would be "unstoppable."

"He would win the urban areas and the upscale voters. She would win the rural areas that we lost when President Reagan was president," he said while campaigning in Pass Christian, Mississippi. "If you put those two things together, you'd have an almost unstoppable force." Watch Bill Clinton tout a 'dream ticket' »

Obama forcefully shot that idea down.

"Sen. Clinton is fighting hard. She's tenacious. I respect her for that. She is working hard to win the nomination. But I want everybody to be absolutely clear. I'm not running for vice president. I'm running for president of the United States of America," Obama told supporters during a rally in Columbus, Mississippi.

If anyone should be suggesting vice presidential candidates, it should be him, Obama said.

"With all due respect. I won twice as many states as Sen. Clinton. I've won more of the popular vote than Sen. Clinton. I have more delegates than Sen. Clinton. So, I don't know how somebody who's in second place is offering vice presidency to the person who's in first place," he said. Watch Obama spike a Clinton-Obama ticket »

Obama also said the Clinton campaign was "hoodwinking" voters when it suggested he was not ready to be president while also floating the possibility of a joint Clinton-Obama ticket.

"I don't understand," he said. "If I'm not ready, how is it that you think I should be such a great vice president?"

Well, i'm glad to see that this has finally been put to sleep. The idea of the guy in 1st place being asked by the girl in 2nd place to be her "helper" is a bit absurd. I'm glad that Obama finally explained how crazy it really is.

5. her 260 electoral votes and his 190 electoral votes
should really tell one who is truly in First and who's in Second when it comes to looking ahead to the General in November.

I mean, it's not like we're going to win Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Alaska, Wisconsin and North Dakota. We DO need, on the other hand, California, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Arkansas, Tennessee and Nevada. (I left out Florida and Michigan 'cause who knows what's going on with that)

If it was a Who Wins the Most States contest, Barack would have it. But it's not. At the end of the day, you gotta have a Nominee who can Close the Deal when the chips are down. He had three tries to knock her out (New Hampshire, Super Tuesday and Ohio/Texas) and, despite his overwhelming strength in fund raising and support as well as the -- for the most part -- good Press (except for Ohio/Texas when they brought the rhetorical knives out), he couldn't do it.

So, when it comes down to it, who will Dean and the Super-delegates go for? The one who lost the big States against a wounded opponent despite having more money and the wind at his back?

Or the one who, despite low funds, a Press standing ready to write her political obituary and everyone else waiting for her to concede because Barack was "inevitable", manages to buckle down, work hard, put nose to the grindstone and one, two, three times deliver a shocking knock-out punch?

I strongly suspect Dean and the Super-delegates will decide after Pennsylvania -- assuming Hillary holds her lead there and wins -- to create a Clinton-Obama ticket.

And Barack, being a perfectly understandable politically ambitious man (nothing wrong with that, of course), will no doubt choose being VP over being shown the door back to the boring drudgery and relative anonymity of the US Senate.

6. And, it's not like CA and the other BLUE states are going
to trip over each other to vote for McCain all of a sudden. Blue states stay blue. Red states stay Red. Purple states can flip... and Obama is a lot closer to flipping purple states then Clinton is.

7. Obama will carry Democratic votes ...

Obama will carry Democratic states. Your argument is a big red herring.

As far as fundraising, Hillary is pretty tapped having relied on big donors rather than small donors. Obama has shown his ability to raise lots of small contributions. I got an email from Obama recently. Did it as for $100 ... no, $50 ... no, it asked for $25. That's right. It only asked for $25. That shows you something about how to raise the dough.

Now, I will also remind you that the dittoheads will not be there to vote for Hillary on election day. Her non-acknowledgement of this phenomenon is farsicle.

After Hillary's tactics, Obama will NOT appear on the same ticket as Clinton. How can Hillary with straight face nominate a man for the #2 post that she thinks is unqualified to be President??

I'm doubling down on Obama. I won't give that bitch-monster a single dime.

8. Yes, because places like NY, CA, MA, and NJ
are just BURSTING to go red unless we elect Hillary. :eyes:

This is a bullshit argument.
