What happened to Spitzer isn't good for anyone
except his political enemies. The situation is sad and pathetic.

He was a man of seemingly great integrity and toughness. He went after cheats, scammers, crooks, polluters. He went after many white collar criminals and it looked like he had a bright political future ahead of him.

Oh and there's no reason to believe Hillary is linked to Spitzer's problems in any way...As far as I know she's not involved in this corruption...

1. Whatever is it that possesses a guy
to risk a promising career just to bump uglies with some hooker? Spitzer is a talented guy, but he sure got an attack of the stupids when he let his little head think for his big head. He deserves to be sacked for sheer stupidity.

3. Incredibly stupid lapse of judgment that possibly destroyed an amazing future

I was surprised...when I saw the article this afternoon. Just puzzled. He would have been the last guy I'd expect getting into something like that.

8. Exactly my sentiments
When I saw the headline I had to do a double take. Spitzer would be the last guy you would expect to do something like this. It is a shame. He could have done a lot of good for us in Washington someday...

4. Turn the question around.

What good is all the power and wealth if you can't lead a life where you can have sex when and with whom you want? This is no accident.

5. What concerns me is the pattern.. no, not of stupidity but what happens afterwards
if this is an R... they get a hit on their hands, and on they go... worst case scenario hey are quietly sent home

With Dems, they are throwing the book at them.

This pattern is very familiar to the historian, and Naomi Wolf put her hand on it quite clearly.

7. That's true, but at the same time he was stupid
If he had only prosecuted Wall street shenanigans and suchlike while he was AG of New York, he'd get away with it. But the fact that he made a moral crusade out of busting a (fairly upscale) prostitution ring in Staten Island a few years ago just puts him in a no-win situation. Unfortunate, because I too thought he was a great guy; but he's getting hung on his own rope.

9. That is not the point at all
the point is that this is what fascism looks like...

If they went after Vitter with the same zealousness, no problem... but they didn't

Or the guy who was going after pages.

And that is the point.

No man is above the law, except if you are in the in with the party in charge and that should worry everybody

6. First of all, we have absolutely no idea what
kind of arrangement he and his wife have. Now, he could be cheating, or she could have given permission. He could have wanted some sort of sexual release that his wife didn't/wouldn't/couldn't want to perform. Going to an expensive hooker means that she is probably guaranteed not to have any stds, or at those prices one would hope. We are not privy to their private lives, so I will not condemn him.

Was he stupid, absolutely. And, he will pay the price.
