10. Unfortunately (maybe not you personally) when it is brought
to the attention of Obama posters as sexism it is poopooed as not being sexist. The definition of sexism is made by each poster.

47. That is not right
I consistently denounce sexism as do many other Obama supporters. I do, however, speak up when I judge the thing is being overused, which happens sometimes, because I think it weakens the arguments against sexism to overreact to every last instance, overanalyze and make a big deal over every goddamn thing, no matter how minor. I do the same about racism. There is a danger to calling out any old loose-lipped quip as sexist or racist. So perhaps to know it when you see it is something individual, but judgment must be applied in order for sense to be made and for the accusation to be taken seriously.

ageism. You can freely refer to anyone over the age of 40 (sometimes younger) as old, senile, useless, etc.

Don't you just love being on a Progressive board?

8. It seems to be the same everywhere.
In the wake of the Ferraro comments, Clinton the supporters who comment on the story have said they have no problem with Ferraro's charges of a 'sexist media.'

AFAIC, if one charge is out of bounds, the other should be. Or both should be fair game.

anything HRC or her staff says or does as being racist. And when we HRC supporters try to provide the "truth" you've already labeled Hillary a racist, so what do the facts matter? And I still have not been given an answer to the following: Who was it that got us to stop fighting the Bush bastards so we could fight each other? Who gained power by splitting the party and getting Democrats to fight Democrats? I answer both OBAMA!

The reaction to Ferraro's 'sexist media' comment is that they all agree.

If one charge is fair game, so should the other be. Or both cards should be kept in the deck, IMO.

40. I think sometimes people forget that since there are two sexes...
...both sides (male and female) are open to charges of sexism.

I've seen statements on this board that suggest that all men are sexist, no exceptions - and that is somehow tied to the fact that Hillary Clinton is not winning this primary season.

Of course, that assertion isn't sexism, because it's a woman saying it. Or something.

28. The problem is...
Edited on Tue Mar-11-08 01:19 PM by dmesg
...it's hard to filter out complaints about actual sexism from an all-too-common tendency for a minority of Clinton supporters to say that our claim that we don't trust Senator Clinton to be President is ipso facto sexist, along with a frankly more common deconstruction of our desire not to nominate Senator Clinton to "actually" mean we don't want a woman to be President.

The only reason I don't support Hillary is because she is female.

34. So let me get this straight...
I don't like Clinton or Obama...and that makes me a sexist racist right? Why can't a person not like the candidates that have been foisted upon her and just be honest? I don't like them, okay? And I'm just a person. A person looking for someone to actually represent my interests. Those two only represent their own, skin color or possession of a vagina aside.

I believe Barbara Boxer would make a good president. I always wished the late, great Ann Richards would have had a chance to run - she would have made a great president.

I, however, believe that Hillary Clinton is too polarizing of a figure to be able to get anything done in the Oval Office.

Is that sexist?

73. It depends.....
Am I sexist if I criticize Senator Clinton?
(which seems to happen to be a lot..
if I question her statements, or her actions,
I'm called a traitor to the cause of women)

Or if I call her a wicked bitch?
(which I don't do,
but I think that's the definition of sexism)

Am I racist if I question or criticize Senator Obama?
(Which I have done from the beginning, but
I think he is our best hope)

Or if I call him a black so-and-so?
(which I don't do,
but I think that's part of racism...)

There seem to be double standards...
based on whose side of the fence one is standing.

HOnestly questioning a candidate's views or actions
is part of the process; alienating their humanity
from their accomplishments and gifts,
denigrating them or their families...
that's the real problem.
