This forum called DU Discussions: Primary, has become an insane asylum.
Edited on Tue Mar-11-08 12:01 PM by Cyrano
We are well on the way to losing the 2008 election. When it comes to blowing a sure thing, we Democrats have turned it into an art form.

Hillary haters are so pissed over the tactics she's used in the past two weeks, they will stay home if she's not the nominee and wouldn't vote for her in a thousand years.

Obama supporters are so pissed over Obama's not having responded to her attacks with a wave of carpet bombing, that they are having fits, wondering if he really has the balls to be Numero Uno.

Both of these views represent personal perceptions, but not necessarily reality.

John McCain and the Republicans are watching and smiling. We're making it so easy for them that there's hardly a reason to hold a November election. There's no need to count votes that were never cast by pissed off Democrats.

This DU thread called DU Discussions: Primaries, has become a battleground of hatred, fear, rudeness, ignorance, and just plain mean-spiritedness.

And having said this, let me add the term insanity. Why? Because this forum is doing everything possible to make John McCain the next president.

My comments may mean nothing to many of you, to Skinner, or to some of the moderators. But here's a prediction. If we stay on the road this forum is building, McCain will give us another four Bush-like years.

2. Personally, I Think You Give Us Far Too Much Credit.
We aren't nearly as important as you think we are, even though I do agree with you as it relates to your overall point.

But I do in my heart believe firmly that come GE time, we will almost all (not talking about DU'ers) come together and steamroll over McCain. I have not wavered from the confidence for a second.

5. DU isn't representative of the Democratic Party or the general population
We are way more partisan and way more pro-Obama. You shouldn't draw any conclusions from what goes on in some subforum on this board.

8. This place
is NOT the United States. The average person out there does not frequent any political forum on a political website. That's just silly nonsense.

It is very arrogant to assume that somehow this place would influence any election. The voters out there might read or see election coverage on the news and might briefly note the mud-slinging or whatever.... but they chalk it up to "politics"... the same old shit that they see year after year. Then they turn on American Idol and move on. Voters vote their state of mind and state of pocketbook at the time of an election. If they are not being negatively impacted by the world around them, then they generally don't even bother to vote unless they are one of the fraction of this society who happens to be interested in politics as a hobby. Otherwise they tend to follow the credos about not arguing "politics or religion".

What goes on here is its own microcosm.

10. At one time, I would have agreed with you. But the net is becoming a force.
DU has over 133,000 members. Who knows how many they influence? Their friends, families, acquaintances, coworkers, or just some guy they're sitting next to in a bar?

The world is changing as we speak. Right now, the cable "news" stations and hate radio still hold sway. But the world moves more quickly these days. Within a couple of years, the net may be the major source of information for the majority, and Limbaugh and FAUX News will be recognized for the jokes that they are.

I don't know whether it will happen quickly enough to affect this election. But it is coming.
