Rice suggests Clinton 'repudiate' Ferraro comment

Says Obama foreign policy advisor Susan Rice:

“I think if Sen. Clinton is serious about putting an end to statements that have racial implications…then she ought to repudiate this comment.”

I agree.

3. The Clintons
will find a way to triangulate and wiggle out of it, since it seems they pushed a button and suddenly, all their minions are spouting similar nonsensical statements.

4. (But Gerri can keep her campaign gig.)
She's on Clinton's Finance committee and probably raises wheelbarrows full of money for the campaign.

So they'll 'repudiate' the comments and still take the dough. Call me cynical.

9. No. She should be fired.
The Clintons had the gall to call for Samantha Powers to step down - so there is NO excuse for allowing Ferraro to stay on after this.

10. Im glad Ferraro only made a racial slur against Obama
If she had called him something worse, like he was a monster or something, then Clinton wouldnt have had any choice but to fire her.

:sarcasm:

I'm glad she didn't say something like the 'sexist media' was making Hillary lose.

14. Obama's campaign owes Ferraro an apology
for misrepresenting her comments and trying to use her in a "swiftboat" attack against Clinton.

The whole affair is very transparent and reflects poorly on Obama and his campaign that they are so desperate to play the race card and distort her analysis of media coverage of the campaign.

Apparently Ferraro struck a nerve w/ Obama in pointing out he was getting favored treatment from the news media as well as highlighting the rampant sexism going on in this campaign.

"Iron My Shirt" Dems like Obama are a group that is fading fast and losing its grip on the Democratic party. They're going down fighting, but their day is past...

18. Flip Out Much Guys?
The mock outrage is kinda funny. From what I have heard she spoke the truth. How does that make her racist? What color is the sky on your planet? Blacks are breaking for Obama what 85%? Can you believe that number has nothing to do with race? So Yeah, If he were were white and the numbers were more in line he would be getting an ass kicking. I have been present at two gunfights at clubs and can tell you this with 100% certainty, you can not get 85% of black folk to agree about anything that isn't race related. And that goes for white folk as well. But as the numbers dictate whites aren't voting on skin color as much as blacks, that is a fact, and you can whine, distort, flame, and report all you want it will not change the numbers or the facts.

19. Mock outrage?
Edited on Tue Mar-11-08 12:45 PM by Renaissance Man
Mock outrage? I think I've pretty much endured every piece of Bill and Hillary Clinton's filth as I can handle.

The problem with Geraldine Ferraro's comments are not that she's speaking any miniscule amount of truth, especially when they are historically inaccurate. There have only been three black Senators in the U.S. Senate since Reconstruction and only two black governors, so for her to suggest that somehow people are "caught up in the concept" or that Barack Obama is somehow "lucky" or has an advantage because he is a black male (even luckier than any woman of color) is preposterous.

On the other hand, there have been 31 women serve as senators and every POTUS has been a white male. The underlying implications in Ferraro's comments are that Barack Obama is somehow an Affirmative Action candidate, totally neglecting that...

... only 13% of the electorate is black ...

... Barack Obama has a more organized, better-funded campaign that has somehow secured the popular votes in states and primaries where the percentage of black voters is extremely small (Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, North Dakota, Colorado, etc.)...

Somehow, his status as a black male is supposed to give him somewhat of an unfair advantage? People should begin to call this what it is, flat out race and gender-baiting.

How many times has Senator Obama denigrated or suggested that Sen. Clinton is only in the position she is because she is a white female? How many times has he attempted to appeal to racial and gender divisions? If he only did this once, he would be lambasted in the media.

The answer -- 0. However, somewhere in some warped sense of reality, people actually defend these statements. I.am.done.

20. Not race. Black people always loyally vote for dems.
Why can't black people vote for someone they identify with more? Black people have been voting for whites since we got the right to vote and they had been getting 85% + of the 'black vote'. Noone complained about that, except for the rethugs.
