Do you ever watch Obama's 2004 convention speech?
I watch it every couple weeks and I am still amazed by it.

It is one of the greatest political speeches in American history. Sends chills up my spine every time I hear it and gives me so much hope that he could be our president.

1. People right then, during the speech, said this guy should be president.
People said that a lot in those days, for everybody who stood up with a backbone.

Usually, I just wrote it off as hype. But there was always something different about Obama.

15. No, this was the way to go
Run during a wide-open year, with no incumbent POTUS or VP on the ballot.

Also, Obama is much more polished than he was 4 years ago.

18. I watched it while at work and told my coworkers that he would someday be president.
Except in 2008 he jumped the queue and should have realized that it was not his turn. Naughty, naughty.

3. If you think that was good... wait until you see his nomination speech in Denver in August...
Edited on Tue Mar-11-08 12:27 PM by scheming daemons
...

The rafters might come down.

Did you know... the night that he accepts the nomination.... August 28th.... is the 45th anniversary of Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech?

You don't think that will be played up BIG TIME?

6. At the time, I was amazed by it. It was almost as good as Dr. Dean's
California "What I want to Know" speech. Too bad Obama was just a speaker. I'm sorry. He doesn't "do it" for me. The speech was good. The followup, no thanks. And no, I can't stand Clinton either. Neither one represents my ideals. I'm staying behind my local Dems. Taking it grassroots all the way until something that is actually different hits the national stage.

8. Yes. What did he say in it that was so great that isn't Democratic boilerplate?
His oratorical skills are arguably the best of any politician on the scene today but if you had John Kerry or Al Gore read the speech no one would have noticed. It wasn't what he said but how he said it. I am amazed at how much mileage he has gotten from one speech in which he said nothing but core Democratic beliefs that numerous speakers speak of at the Democratic convention every four years.

9. Watch a 4-year-old speech every couple weeks? Did someone say "Cultish"?
I think most folks would find that perfectly normal behavior. :eyes:

12. Do you listen to good music every couple of weeks?
Are you in some musical cult?

I sort of pity that you support a candidate who is so thoroughly unlikable and uninspiring.

hear nothing else.

It's a great mashup. Perfect cadence and volume in each phrase. He's a masterful speaker.

13. Wish I could go to the convention - I was going to be a delegate but have no money for the State one
I guess I was naive and never knew how much money it takes to go to a State Convention before you go to the National one. Wish I could go though!

14. One Speech?
Really? One speech is all that this guy is running on? Please.... I want substance. Hillary Rodham Clinton offers substance, ideas, and yes hoope for a better and brighter future for America!

Barak Hussein Obama on the other hand is an empty suit compared to Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Go Hillary

20. Yes, I watched it and was blown away by it. I thought to myself then
that this could be our first black President. However, I really expected him to get a little more experience on the national political scene before he made his bid.

25. I was there when he gave it
I was one of those second class caucus delegates at the time but it didn't stop me from being at the convention that night. It was a great speech.

I was also there for the speeches that Gore and Sharpton gave.
